Gay JWs - how did you deal with your Kool-Aid drinking relatives?

As far as I know there are no gay relatives in my family but I would like to make an observation if I may.

I am a devoted animal lover who watches nature programs all the time. I am always coming across examples of homosexuality in the animal kingdom. How can anyone say it is unnatural to be gay when it happens all the time in just about every species that has been studied from gut worms to primates!

I used to breed guinnea pigs and several of them turned out to be gay. One in particular was very handsome and would have made a superb stud, but he was only interested in other male pigs, the females just left him cold. He obviously had not read his bible lol.

Here is a quote from Wikipedia.

A 1999 review by researcher Bruce Bagemihl shows that homosexual behavior has been observed in close to 1,500 species, ranging from primates to gut worms, and is well documented for 500 of them. [1] [2]Animal sexual behavior takes many different forms, even within the same species. The motivations for and implications of these behaviors have yet to be fully understood, since most species have yet to be fully studied. [3] According to Bagemihl, "the animal kingdom [does] it with much greater sexual diversity — including homosexual, bisexual and nonreproductive sex — than the scientific community and society at large have previously been willing to accept." [4] Current research indicates that various forms of same-sex sexual behavior are found throughout the animal kingdom. [5] A new review made in 2009 of existing research showed that same-sex behavior is a nearly universal phenomenon in the animal kingdom, common across species. [6]

Being gay is a fact of life, whatever species you happen to be. It is no more unnatural than being left handed. Many faiths put humans on a pedestal as being created 'in God's image' and therefore above basic animal traits, but at the end of the day we are just living creatures with the same traits as most other species.

Of course, the problem remains in trying to persuade brain washed JW relatives to accept this information, but there is no harm in trying.

    Take care of yourselves

I agree, the JW's in the main hide behind the old addage "We hade the sin, not the sinner" - not my experience in the congregation at all

Mine neither. My eldest son is disfellowshipped for being gay. He's now treated by all his JW friends as if homosexuality is a contageous disease. However his JW grandparents (in their 80's, hard-liners) were so appalled at his treatment that they go against all the jw advice and welcome him with open arms.

Can't say this attitude happened overnight, it didn't. It took them at least 3 years before they softened their hearts and welcomed him normally (much to my surprise)

So when it comes to relatives, give them time to adjust and if they're good people they'll realise that being gay doesn't mean you've suddenly grown 2 heads. If they're not good people, then they'll remain hard-line JW's and the pride of the congregation.

    Good luck
