Some here have been treated terribly by elders while in the Organization. Some were treated kindly.
Why do you think some elders are task masters while others are milder?
Do you think they're all the same no matter how they come across to the "flock"?
No two elders are exactly alike....
Temperament, motivation and general ability vary.
I have seen 'talents among men' to 'ego-tripping pricks' and everything else in between....
Remember that elders are obliged to follow "Mother's" rules or they are out!
Elders are like cops...
Some cops want to be cops to help people, make a difference... some cops want to be cops so they can carry a badge, a gun and have a position of power over those who don't have the power.
Some elders are sincere and want to be a shelter in the storm. Others enjoy the power and position. They like to be in charge, hand down rules and enjoy disciplining people.
I think it comes down to what part of the Bible connects with them personally. Some are attracted to the Christian principles of Jesus while others are attracted to the power and black/white rulings of the Mosiac law under the Hebrew God Jehovah.
In theory yes....
But it doesn't alway translate well into reality...
There are so many LTRs, unknown scandals and intpretational nuances it is hard for any Elder to be truly 'on top' of things all the time.

I felt many times that my hands were tied by the GB because we HAD to act a certain way, especially if it was related to showing mercy on judicial cases.

The Elders I know just don't/can't think, they are company men with 'opinions';
there is no way to understand them.
Their opinions do not agree with the FDS written words.
However they are very competent liars, also have great ability to hoodwink the CO.
