    If they are elders AND they post here, then I question why they really want to hold on to the position.

    The problem is that rule-based metrics to measure one's suitability for eldership leave out a lot of the Jesus qualities. Metrics drive behaviour and thus the dominant mindset tends to be rule-based. Do you attend all the meetings, have a family that follows the rules, comment a lot, go in service greater than the congregation average, give good talks? You are fine elder material!

    Some of the elders gravitate more to being Jesus-like ie. they care about you, and some are more to pharisee like (rule enforcement) and everywhere in-between. It's a mixed bag.
