Hello leavingwt,
Was it unmistakable?
On occasions, yes.
God speaks to me every day but it is not always unmistakable. I am far from an expert in the hearing department and all too often I am too busy with my own thing :(
However, for example on one morning in my bathroom His voice was so unmistakable that I told the Holy Spirit out loud to "just leave me alone" (that was toward the later part of my 20 year rebellion).
OK here's another example. I was at a prayer meeting around 4 years ago and someone had a prophetic vision of people with metal rings around their heads. As I had a headache which had come during in the meeting I deduced that was certainly for me and so I got some prayer.
A couple of months back I was at a different prayer meeting in a different place and I felt fine early on and then some heaviness coming on a little later. Then I found myself thinking about that word of the "metal ring around the head" given four years earlier. Anyhow, shortly afterwards a different person said they had a vision and I had a metal ring around my head. However, it had a crack in it. They said I had tried to take it off myself and actually hurt myself.
I know what this ring is, the Lord has been dealing with me regarding an issue over these years. In fact, I was first alerted to it the second time I set foot in church when a different person gave me a prophetic word of a chapter of the bible which was "for me", Mark 9. As I read it the Lord spoke to me about this issue.
Well there have been several other prophetic words now I think of it just relating to this one issue. However, the Lord does not only speak through the prophets but now in these days through the Spirit of His Son. In fact, everything is confirmed by the Spirit, even if they are prophetic words via a third party.
God is speaking to you, I have absolutely no doubt. However, there is a lot of other noise in the airwaves and you need to turn the dial in His direction.
Do something to start some two way dialogue. Open your bible and invite the Holy Spirit to come and talk. Go hang out with those Christian friends from your workplace. Check out their church some time. The Lord loves faith, I know that from experience!
You have all the framework in place, you understand it in your mind but you do not know it in your heart. You can only do that with some steps of faith and seeing how it turns out.
Blessings,
Stephen
P.S. I just read your last two posts after I wrote mine and it seems I might have answered those questions here :)

I found that facts and logic have this affect on faith. When I tried to buy the book, "the five gospels" at a Christian bookstore around 1996 the clerk told me they didn't carry that book. "We don't want to stampede the horses", she smirked. Man, I really did want to read that book then and it was work every dollar.

Thank you for the encouragement. I have not shut these people out and I do regularly listen to what they have to say. My wife has also made plans for our family to attend Easter services again, this year. (I'm not anti-theist or anti-religion.)

LWT,
I am myself, right now, going through a bit of a struggle.
You see, my eldest Sofia, is going to a Catholic school (she was baptized a RC) and now it is time for Communion and as a respectful father I asked her what she would liek to do, noting that she doesn't have to do it. She said she wanted to do it to see for herself ( she is 7 by the way).
So now I have to register at the loack RCC and be part of this event, even though I am NOT a RC and have some serious issues with the RCC and and some of its traditions and views.
My JW's family is 100% against it of course, but they know their place and keep out of it, but I a still stuck in a spot, part of me feels that is its wrong to be a part of something I don't agree 100% on and the other part sees no harm in allowing her to do this for herself so she can see for herself if this is something she wants in her life.

The good news? The RCC doesn't require that it's members agree on all points of faith. Its' not like joining the JWs or the Mormons. You'll be there to support your daughter. No doubt, you'll raise her to be a wise young lady who make excellent choices. She will have personal values that transcend any dogma, etc.

PSac, I feel the same way with both of my boys in an RCC school. My oldest asked (around 7) to be baptized catholic, and I told him that if he really wanted to I would get it done for him, but he never brought it up again and so neither did I. By twelve, he has never asked about anything else (catholic - wise, except what I thought about hell), and I have told him that its okay to either be catholic or not catholic. We just believe some things differently. By youngest has never asked about it.
I wouldn't tell my son not to take communion though, if he wanted it - regardless of whether or not he went through all the right steps to get there first.
You have deep faith. I wouldn't worry about your daughter. She at least has that model to help guide her through all the various things out there.

Excellent news all round :)
I feel you have quiet a good working knowledge of God in many respects. You are understanding of many of the themes in books like Galatians for example very well.
However, you need more Spirit experience! Sure, He can pop up where and when He likes but He also likes people to seek Him out. You can easily find Him in the hearts of those who have been born again. You will find the more of Him they have the more you will be drawn to them and the places they hang out.
Blessings,
Stephen

Stephen, sorry for my ignorance in all things "church", but what is a prayer meeting?
