I was one for 22 years and served with hundreds and most were very nice, we were just brainwashed to follow and enforce the F^%$&g rules of the Watchtower.
Agreed wholeheartedly ... I think the expression "some elders' would be more accurate..but then again some weird people are found in every segment of society !
My experience is that I knew what SEEMED to be like a lot of elders were on the weird side. Just more odd elders than not in my area.

When I served (In a different area) most of the ones I worked with were decent men , but blinded by the religion. Now, up here, they do seem largely strange, but that could be due to my own changed perspective
I find weird can be benign; what bothered me was how they were trained to lie or lose their position.

I was talking to my bud who used to be an elder today, and we reminisced about all the odd elders in our area. There were a lot!
Weird? Absolutely! I think they probably need to cut back on the Viagra or Enzyte and wipe that silly grin off their face.
Most of the ones left are simply unreasonable. The ones that are not unreasonable all left and joined these boards, while those who think obedience at all costs is paramount are the ones left.
The few elders I have known have had an over inflated ego with no common sense or education to match.
