Humifusa can be hybridized with a closely related species to produce a plant that makes larger and more colorful flowers:
Out here, there's an aggresive cousin of Prickly Pear called Cholla. One species (Cylindropuntia bigelovii) is sometimes called "Jumping Cactus"
The slightest breath of wind will knock sections off and a really strong gust can do this:
This plant has gradually lost the ability to produce seeds. Sections breaking off is the sole method of propagation now.
