One of the cheapest things to do would be to see if some kind of curtain can be installed, like hospitals do for individual beds.

Maybe check out Japanese style dividers.
They are really nice.

Why don't you get a book shelf or two that is about 8 feet high.
As long as you anchor them together and to a wall (so they don't tip over and kill you) you'll end up with the visual privacy of the room divider, and some practical, moveable storage space.

Great idea, if semi permanence works for ASO!
I did that in my studio and now I have a bedroom and a living room. Three sections, in combination, about 10' by 6'.

Scully, thank you for your suggestion, but I do not think it is a good idea since it is semi permanence. I want to be able to move the divider at moment's notice if I need to. I have been in touch with a carpenter today and I will see how it turns out for me.
