More on the brother in my hall who attacked children Halloween night with a knife.

Well I have learned that it was very true. I do not want to post the story because I do not want to totally give myself away and the story dose not say he was a JW only that he attacked children and had a police standoff. Plus it gives his name and I just do not want to bring more problems on him, it is just really sad.

The brother is schizophrenic. When he was learning the truth he was studied with by an elder who is also an attorney three times a week. Tons of attention was given to him. I mean an elder none the less studied with him he was totally loved bombed. This brother was on assemblies saying how he had these demonized books that he realized he needed to get rid of before he was baptized so he started a huge fire to burn them and the fire would not start he tried and tried to burn them and it was supper hard but he stuck to it and got rid of all his demoniac things and Jehovah has blessed him so much.

This brother is schizophrenic he hears voices in his head. HELLOW!!! to the stupid elder who studied with him. I mean to tell a man like him that the demon's are in things is a disaster waiting to happen.

Well this schizophrenic brother tired he really tried. He would go through times of being real active in the "truth" talking about regular pioneering and he did auxiliary pioneer at times or at least try to get the time in. He got married and his step son-in-law is an elder. But he is schizophrenic and he will be schizophrenic until the day he dies. He will hear voices in his head and he will need to stay on meds forever in this world.

But no I forget JW's can cure everything how stupid of me.

I am just so frustrated, he is not the only schizophrenic in the hall. We have at least one other that I know of. He is really nice but he has real problems also and hears voices too. We had one mentally ill person who was schizophrenic very unstable coming to the hall. Another group of elders had DF'ed him and he was very upset over it. Again this attorney elder would talk and talk to him before and after the meetings for months and months. The man I heard was living on the streets at times, it was so sad he needed help but could not let go of the JW thing. He thought the "truth" was wrong and he had to convince everyone of that in the KH but he thought everyone needed to follow him, and his way of thinking. It was scary because I knew he could come back with a knife or gun. I talked and talked to the PO telling him 'look this man needs help, true help. We need to call mental health. NAMI someone to truly help him.' The PO said 'well we do not want to get him mad because he could be dangerous.' ' I am like he is already mad, we DF'ed him but having someone just talk and talk who is not trained in mental health is making it worse.' All my pleas fall on deaf ears. The man did come back and started screaming and threatening it finally scared the elders to death and they told him to never come back again. Then the attorney elder gave a local needs part on not talking to DF'ed people. I went straight to the PO after the talk and said the only one who is talking to DF'ed people is the attorney elder why of all people did you have him give that talk. I was pissed to no end. I said the attorney elder put everyone's lives in danger and he did not help the mentally ill man. The PO said Jehovah was trying to humble the attorney elder by having him give the talk. OMG

I just feel so frustrated in my hall, there is a sexual psychopath, at least two schizophrenics, we had two registered sex offenders that have since moved way, and many of members in the hall are on anti depressants.

I have went to the police about the sex offenders, nothing can be done until they harm another child because they have severed their time for what they did do the police can do nothing about it. No law is being broken to not tell the member of the congregation. It is an in house decision between the elders to inform parents of the dangers. I just called the national alliance on mental illness and there is nothing they can do though they admitted it is a ticking time bomb, but JW's have a right to recruit the mentally ill.

Everyone has a right to go door to door sex offenders, mentally ill there is no law against it. The JW's are not breaking a law but morally it is sick. That brother could have wigged out at a householders door and attacked them.

I have asked the ones in the hall who still speak to me what is going on with him and they are mad at him for being off his meds. Schizophrenics do that HELLOW!!! Plus I heard he does not have money for the meds, one sister told me and she seemed upset at him over that. Schizophrenics also do not know how to handle money well. This brother has no criminal record until now.

I just hate this religion so much. I told the lady yesterday at the mental health place that I feel so helpless I am just watching horrible thing unfolding and there seems nothing I can do to stop it. No one cares.

I think the attorney elder might be on this board. There is one poster who sounds like him. I have put a huge amount out here that is another reason I do not want to say where I live.

The lady at the mental health place said I need to take care of myself. It is all just so sad I feel like my heart is breaking.

Your entire congregation sounds like a ticking time bomb and if I were you, I wouldn't go anymore, simply for your own safety. If you still feel the need to go to the meetings (say for family), is there another congregation you can attend? The problem is that elders are not trained to deal rationally with schizophrenics or those with mental problems (other than to disfellowship them) and it seems to be adding fuel to the fire. For someone who's mentally unbalanced, being recruited into what you believe is the one true religion can be a wonderful thing to happen. Then suddenly you're in and you can't keep up with all the expectations, you're always being told from the platform that you're not good enough, and pretty soon, you initial elation comes down, and you get depressed. Maybe you stop taking your meds and then things really get out of control. The elders---not having a clue how to handle the situation, do the only thing they're trained to do: disfellowship the person.

Now you've got a mentally disturbed person who has now been cut off from what they believe is 'the truth', no one will talk to them and they become unglued at the seams. Now God hates them, their former friends who lavished all the love and attention on them now hate them, they're going to die at Armageddon which could strike any day now and their mental powers snap. They grab a gun or a knife, go to the place that has caused them all this grief and they start shooting. Or stabbing, or who knows what else.

This religion is becoming scarier all the time and the recruitment of the mentally ill has got 'disaster' spelled all over it.

    Mary

You totally put into words what I have been trying to say over and over. I love what you just wrote.

And no I am not going to meetings anymore. My husband still is though. When I first stopped going to the meetings he said well lets just move to another hall. I said find one with no child molesters in it and I will think about it. I also told all the elders that. So far there has been no answer from any of them.

This religion is becoming scarier and scarier all the time and the only ones who are being recruited are the mentally ill right now. Thanks so much for you thoughts Mary.

    MARY,

You have said what I have known for a very long time: the congregations have people in them that are hazardous to the unsuspecting people around them. If not a hazard physically, then a hazard emotionally - because the sick make the well sick. These problematic people are in addition the deadbeats and con-artists that are already there. Everybody's is all dressed up nicely and you do not know what you are sitting next to. And they want you to 'widen out', but what the hell are you widening out to?

How many times in my life have I encountered people there who were mentally unbalanced, overly-sensitive etc.? And I WAS supposed to be the one bending myself into the shape of a pretzel to accommodate them? Really?? I don't think so. I saw this way back when and knew there were people there who I would not to talk to or spend any time around because I saw they had issues and caused terrible problems to people who had the misfortune to befriend them or be around them.

If you were left reeling from a bad experience with somebody and if you went to the elders to complain, you would be told "sister, you have to use discernment...." In other words, tough luck, it's not OUR problem if you made friends with the wrong person. I knew there were some people I had to run from and this is a sad fact.

Now, the problem is compounded many times over by a bad economy. If I was stupid enough to still be there I would be walking a gauntlet of all these types of people. Yes, it does have "Disaster" written all over it.

I hate to say it though, but I suspect other religions have a similar problem and in these times we live in - troubled people are attracted to religions, not just for doctrine but because they are looking for ASSISTANCE!

Man, (smh) theres so much mental illness @ the kingdom hall. I wonder if people really know what there up against when they go out in field service and street corner work. They dont because their not trained psycologist. Also, let me not fail to mention, the thousands of people at the kingdom hall that already have mental illness.
