    That is somewhat debatable and has been debated.

    Like any Father that KNOWS their kids did something bad but asks them anyways.

    As parents we have all done that.

    I think a better example would be why did God have to send spies (in Israel) to neighboring nations to find out how powerful they were?

    Don't you think the question in Genesis to which you refer might be similar to a parent saying, "Johnny, have you been playing outside when I told you to stay in?" knowing full well what the facts were but wanting Johnny to admit his disobedience?

    On a serious note, I can see how a being outside of time, with past,present and future not being a factor, can be "all knowing".
