Interesting question to ask a Witness

If you are ever in a situation where a Witness is seemingly interested in what you have to say and believe ask them this question:

"If what you believed about the Witnesses and the Watchtower Organzation was false and there was no hope of Paradise or anything else, would you want to find that out? Or would you like to be kept in blissful ignorance and die believing it was all true."

If their answer to the question is blissful ignorance then it would be best to not get into any spiritual or doctrinal debate, since they are obviously married to the idea and will never actually budge.

If they answer that they would like to know the truth if it were all a lie, then you have something to work with.

    Just a thought I had.

With most of witnesses wired to rejecting anything ant-Watchtower, I think this question good as it sounds, is a hard sell. Good luck to anyone who tries it.

I think it would be good to dress it up a little first, and ask "If someone you call on in the D to D work is happy in their beliefs, is it not better to leave them as they are?"

The Dub will reply "No, they must be told the truth", then ask "But are you sure they could handle the truth if they have spent a lifetime believing falsehoods ?"

They will no doubt give examples of those who have left their Church to join the Dubs at a ripe old age.

Then ask, "But how about you, could you handle ......... "

I like that wobble, but the dub would undoubtably feel they are the exception.

There was an interesting star trek from Star Trek: The Next Generation, where Data's mother comes on board. She says she is his mother because she worked with Data's creator when we was getting made and was his wife.

The beginning of the third act Data's "mom" falls off a hill and her arm falls off revealing that she is an Android just like Data, she was a wife created by Dr. Noonien Soong. The andriod was based on the Doctor's wife that had died.

Data's mom didn't die from the fall but was turned "off" when she hit the ground. The enterprises engineer and Data were able to put her back together before they reactivated her. Data struggled with the decision to tell her whether or not she was an Andriod, check out this scene:

Sab's question is similar to one I've asked JWs:

"If Jehovah wanted you to know that the WTBTS Society is NOT his organization, what would he have to do to convince you?"

Usually all I get in response is a blank stare or "But it IS Jehovah's organization."

    /facepalm

Wonder what "proof" they have in those mousetrap of brains they have to respond like that.

It was interesting to ask my Uber-dub B.I.L a similar question, I posed it that my sons were both atheists, but I felt that I could prove to them that God existed (not true, of course I could not) but from there, how would he, my B.I.L , prove to them that JW's were God's Org.

Why should they not choose another religion.

He, a regular pioneer for years, an Elder for aeons, could offer no proof !

It was not enough to make him think though, he still knocks on doors to declare that he is bringing the "truth" with nothing to back it up, perhaps that kind of chutzpah is why he was a good salesman back in the day.

As always, your wit and intelligence win out! Excellent reasoning. My wife still is not quite at the receptive stage to make any real progress in exiting the cult, but I'll keep this bookmarked.

Good stuff here. Sounds incredibly familiar.

I brought both my dad and DIL to stunned silence when I told them God's hands were not tied in regards to this WT religion. He could always leave. They both said he will never leave His organization. I asked them if he left Israel, which according to the Jews was His organization for hundreds of years.

They were silent for an extended moment (which is incredible for them) and then they came back with, "But there no time for Him to leave. We're too close to the end."

    This was me:

I agree with Scott. JWs are wired to reject anything, no matter how logical, that "attacks" their beloved WT.
