How many 'Wake up' moments have you experienced?

I have had at least Four since leaving the Jw's.

My epiphanies began just about 7 years ago. [I am referring primarily to post-JW experience, but others may have experienced similar from a differing perspective:

    • Waking up to the 'truth about the Truth'
    • Waking up to the very similar 'truth about Christianity'
    • Waking up to the reality of the Bible's foolishness and trap
    • Waking up to the again similar 'truth about all religion'

Each has been painful in it's own right. Each has been exhilarating in it's own right.

    And you?

    Hi Jeff,

My steps are similar to yours, for me all within 6 months from the first to the last:

    • Waking up to the 'truth about the JW version of the Truth'.
    • Waking up to the reality that the Bible is NOT inspired and NOT from god.
    • Waking up to the fact that ALL religions are BS and are a trap and a great way of controlling people.

Yes each has been painful (apart from the last) and EXTREMLY exhilarating (especially the first)

    3MozziesAgnostic and proud of it!

    1. Waking up to the realization that jewish god wasn't directing wt directors.

    2. Seeing the 'light', the source, feeling my connection to it.

    3. Realizing that there is no bible god.

    4. Seeing that the bible isn't god's word.

I don't remember the order of the last 3.

    Hi Jeff,

It was good to meet with you and OTWO again this week.

I remember you going through a lot of these transformations. "What a long strange trip its been . . ."

I think we have all had to face reality in our own ways. I remember when I first realized that "the truth was not THE TRUTH." I had to reevaluate everything that I believed to be true. All of my core beliefs were infused with false JW dogma. I had to start with "Is the sky really blue?", and go from there.

I have had many wake up moments, as have you. I look forward to sharing them as always. Hang in there, my friend.

Yes, I experienced these moments of crystal clarity, roughly between 1978 and 1983. I did not read CoC until I was well out from under the WT spell. More importantly to me was the extrication from the flypaper of religous superstition .

As the experiences of many on this site have shown over and over, they may have broken free of the WT Society but they have stayed in the organized superstition compound. Many are very comfortable and content with their invisible friend. I have no particular interest in jerking the Jesus pacifier out of anybodys mouth but when they start rying to recruit (which is really for their own reassurance) I am not shy about expressing my views on the subject.

I could never go back to a belief in the supernatural. Jesus, ghosts, demons, hauntings, poltergiests, the whole schmeer bores me to death.

I too went through the steps you did AK. I must say that each of them was not painful to me but very liberating.

Great comments Gregor. I share your sentiments. They just can't seem to keep it to themselves. Jesus pacifier, I'll have to remember that one!

I've so many epiphanies through out my life. The big one. The best one I've had came in a list of many smaller ones that added up to the JW religion is big time Bull$shit.

With family still in, the first one has been pretty hard on me.
I experienced the others in a similar way without attending different churches, but they were not that big a deal after going through the first one.

Wow! I love it when you talk dirty.

As to the question in hand - I don't think we ever stop having wake up moments. Each year brings another level of understanding. This goes on until we become senile and die. Seems such a waste.

I think what began my doubts of, not only JW's, but all religion was when I thought about when religion was at it's peak. During that time, learning slowed, barely any scientific, medicinal, cultural, or economic progress was made. The world was screwed over for hundreds of years because of religion. Then I thought about the benefits of science and how much better the world is. Then I began questioning every religion, including JW's.
