(Factuality Note: In this thread I will talk about my "aunt". In actuality this relative was either my aunt, uncle or cousin.)

My aunt died several years ago. She was disfellowshipped for my entire life. My parents enforced the JW shunning policy with the same ruthlessness they did on ALL DFed people including my older brother.

In a recent conversation with one of my parents, an interesting tidbit came to light that I'd never heard before. I always knew my aunt was DFed somewhere around the ripe old age of 18. But, I never knew how old she was when she got baptized.

    Care to guess?

First right answer gets an extra day of eternal life petting fictitious vegetarian lions.

OK, time to stop being such a stickler for rules.

(Besides, I've got to get to bed soon.)

    The winnner is!......................

    Bsmart!!!!!!

Yeah, you nailed it. 6 years old.

Notice what the current "light" is on infant baptism:

    *** w06 4/1 p. 28 par. 9 Meeting the Requirements for Christian Baptism ***
Before getting baptized, however, a youngster should have a personal relationship with Jehovah, a sound understanding of the fundamentals of the Scriptures, and a clear comprehension of what dedication involves, as is the case with adults.

Anyway, when my wife mentioned that maybe 6 years old is a little bit young, guess what my parent's reply was?

"Oh well. Aunt _ _ _ _ _ _ always used that as an excuse. She always liked to say that she was was baptized way too young. But she never really wanted to be a Witness anyway."

Uh, Hello!?! Can you even hear yourself? On the whole, my aunt never wanted to be a JW. But she made an emotional decision when she was six and for that, she gets shunned for her entire life.

    Brilliant.

    And loving.

Do I really have to pet the lion? Really? I 'm pretty sure the dinosaur ride would be more fun!

It is the craziest thing, forever shunned because of being a kid who wanted to please her parents... and then growing up!

This is hateful and so **ed up. Hateful, hateful excuse for a religion.

I'm so sorry for your Aunt, Om. I am sorry for us all (who understand and who are not surprised by this.)
