Archimendes, what's the "NZ MB" you're referring to? Is it a public forum? If so, what's the address?

St George of England
I wrote to London Bethel a couple of years ago about an issue; I quoted the relevant WT's on the subject. When I got a reply, many weeks later, it was evident they had not really read the question as they had answered something I hadn't asked and had simply quoted the WT's I had refered to in my original question.
I showed the reply to an elder and he said that was par for the course. London Bethel, and in fact all Bethels other than Brooklyn are not allowed to write anything other than quotes from published literature. He suggested I write to Brooklyn and explain what had happened.
I followed his advice and wrote to Brooklyn and some weeks later did at least get a proper reply by someone who knew what he was talking about. When I showed this letter to the elder, he told me that was my limit for the year. If you write more than once a year you will receive a letter telling you off! He showed me the letter he had received after sending several questions in.

Thanks for that George, the guy at watchtowerletters must really have annoyed them then.
Mr Monroe, pm sent as I am unsure whether I will be breaking the rules by pointing to a commercial site.

When you call Bethel, tell them you want to speak to one of the Faithful and Discreet Slave. They do know their phone numbers- right?

You get a series of transfers, having to tell two or 3 people your question...then finally you reach the right person who gives you the canned WT partyline answer.

I wrote the society in Canada and New York and sent them the same letter. I was asking about the UN scandal. I sent them all the information as back up, emails and letters from the UN etc. The New York Bethel didn't respond at all! The Canadian Bethel responded within 3 weeks. They sent me a letter of "Dear sister, we are sorry that the world made u see this, please trust us blagh blagh, and sent me two magazines highlighting the fact that they respect the government. They didn't answer my questions at all, only telling me to trust Jehovah, but I did get a response. Maybe if you really want answers, you can write to a few Bethel branches, you should get a response from someone lol.

Archimendes,
Here is a link to scans of actual correspondence between a concerned elder and NY Bethel. Follow the letters from 1998 to 2003 and see how the WT initially evades the questions, then simply blows the brother off, and eventually plays dumb to the point of the elder resigning over the issues. It is an enlightening and interesting read. All credit goes to the AJWRB site of course...

You are better off writing for information on an apostate web site. Seems the apostates know more about how the religion is actually run than the hounders, and are willing to divulge more truthful information than the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger. And, it will not be handed to the hounder-hounder for him to contact the hounders to guilt you into shutting up about it.

One of the first inklings I had that something was wrong with the WTBTS was when I was encouraged as a teenager to write the WTBTS a letter with a trivial enquiry. First of all the WTBTS took three months to reply. Secondly the response was so obviously a cut & paste standard letter churned out in the hundreds. They didn't even bother to sign the letter. I've had more personal and quicker responses from writing to my telecoms provider. It was a light year from the "loving faithful & discreet slave who really cares for you" image projected in the societies publications.
Basically any response (if you get one) repeats word for word your original letter. If there is anything even mildly of concern they will copy it without your permission to your elders. They usually tell you to check up any answer in the WT index.

An Elders School instructor once told us that he had, at one time, been on the desk at London Bethel that replies to letters. He said that some of them were good questions that made him think creatively about how to reply, "Well, you have to say something!" was his comment
The letters that I have had, from Brooklyn or London have all been vague, ambiguous and said nothing new in response to the question. They often reply what they want, not exactly what you have asked.
Go ahead and write...It can do no harm
