Thanks to Pirata for the valuable information....

Once again the line of demarcation is drawn by the society. Christmas is pagan but umbrellas are not yet they both have pagan origins....HUH?

Pisses me off I didn't know this before! Thanks also to IssacAustin! I have COC and In search of now. Quite eye opening! Anyone have Don Cameron's book too? I haven't been back in over a month. It's been great! I have noticed I have met very few REAL witnesses in my life. Ones that reallly love God and try to do the right thing. On the other hand I have been ripped off of money etc. from others. Many times over.

I didn't know that umbrellas had a pagan history... wow, would be interesting if the WTS busted out a new rule about banning umbrella use. I would start laughing... openly in the meeting if I ever heard that one. That would be craaaaazy.

For real? Wow, I had no idea (Thanks, pirata for the info) Here I just thought umbrellas were just practical n' stuff, not anything pagan. Silly me.

Wow, I didn't know this. Wow.

The sad thing is that a die hard JW would read this write from the WT Library, and fail to see the irony.

    So did I.

That is a very interesting piece of info. I found this description of where umbrellas originated from:

"...The umbrella was also considered a symbol in early religious beliefs to be connected with the Gods of fertility and harvest, death and rebirth. Nut, the mother goddess of ancient Egypt was sometimes compared to an umbrella, with her body arching over the whole of Earth. Nut's son Osiris and God of the Lower World was also associated with the umbrella and bringer of rain. Similarities of this legend can be found with the Hindu God Vishnu, who in his fifth incarnation brought back the rain-giving umbrella of Varuna from Hell. The Greeks and Romans incorporated such stories with their respective Gods Dionysius and Bacchus, both of whom gave rain. But it was the Greeks who developed the umbrella's widespread use by women, which originated from the worship of Dionysius where a parasol was carried over the statue of the God at Festivals. Very soon this trait was used for other Gods and Goddesses, including Pallas Athena and Athenian women had parasols held over them at feasts in her honour. This led to the parasol being associated as an accessory for women."

Now how the hell can the Society claim that its wrong, wrong, wrong to celebrate Christmas because it has "pagan origins", yet it's a-okay to carry an umbrella when it has connections with ancient pagan gods and goddesses?

I'm book-marking this one. Excellent find.

    JW head-doily on (check)

    *** w09 10/15 pp. 15-16 par. 15 “You Are My Friends” ***

Read Matthew 25:31-40. Jesus called those who would make up the faithful slave class his brothers. In the illustration about the separating of the sheep from the goats, Jesus clearly states that he takes personally the way we treat his brothers. In fact, he said that the determining factor that would distinguish a sheep from a goat would be the way an individual treated even “the least of these [his] brothers.” Therefore, the primary way that those with the earthly hope demonstrate their desire to be friends with Christ is by supporting the faithful slave class

Additional UBERIST comment ::::::: Salvation is dependent on how we treat the Slave GB.... rain, sleet, hail and highwinds shouldn't sway our devotion to keep clean from every sort of defiling thing and should in time the 'light grow brighter' on this matter (Isa 52:11) then most certainly we all will without hesitation proudly and in boldness speak out about the abomination of the umbrella

(I wish we could get Noumair to expound on this matter!)

    It is truly pathetic.

Umbrellas, pinatas, wedding rings are all pagan but A-OK!

Birthday cake, Christmas presents, and saying "good luck" are all EVIL.

To a JW this is all a matter of course; to a normal person it is insanity.
