7th Day Adventists came to my house... it was weird

So I get a knock on the door and a minister from a local 7th day adventists is at my doorstep. It felt very much like a Witness. He asked me about my life and how things were going and if I was a Christian.

I explained to him that I gave up Christianity a while back and he asked why. I started talking to him about Gospel inconsistancies etc etc and that I had a problem with anyone proclaiming them to be absolute law or doctrine.

Weirdly I was interupted in my spiel... from his walky talky. He then handed me a pamphlet about the wonders of Jesus and asked for money, "anything would do" he said.

So I opened up my wallet and gave him a buck. I wanted to read their literature out of curiosity. Then all of the sudden another dude showed up and was a few paces behind the minister at my door.

He asked me if I was actually going to read the pamphlet. I told him of course because I like to get perspective from all sides. Then he asked for MORE money. He asked me if I had any change laying around. I told him I didn't have any change "laying around" but I did have a change jar which is like a mini savings. He straight up asked me if I would get 4 quarters out of it. I told him no, that I felt the 1 dollar was a good donation since the other guy said I could give what I wanted.

This other guy literally took about a full minute to stop asking for loose change and finally they both left.

It was a bizarre experience. I think the guy that came in later was listening to me and the original guy talk. I think he "called him back" because I was starting to talk about things they didn't want to waste their time on.

    Creepy stuff.

Now THAT's interesting. I've never ran into an Adventist before. They're like a urban legend although they are kind of like our twisted stepbrother speaking from a JW perspective. Ran into quite a few Mormons in my time, and discussed quite a few things with them too. They made me feel quite normal looking back on it all, as they're a little more nuts than Fred Franz was. But an Adventist......I've never known one or seen one.

I visited the 7th Day Adventist meeting a long time ago. They had members give Bible experiences and one gave the experience of taking a Bible study away from the JW. They do not usually go door to door as the jw do. Most of the time they go to a home because someone referred them to that home or they has an informal conversation with them in a store or doctors office.

They have some weird beliefs, such as the governments will be destroyed by God but it is ok to be a politician. Xmas is a pagan celebration, but it is ok to celebrate it. Peter was told that all meat was ok to eat, but it is best to keep away from meat. Some drink milk and eat eggs and some don't.

    Humans are weird.

(yeah, I just coined that bumper sticker)

I've had a visit from the 7th Day Adventists here in NZ too. Many moons ago now. The Catholics have actually visited as well.

I prefer to speak to the Mormon guys when they come around.

Being an avid biker, it's a way to ask a few questions about their bikes, maintenance, tires, etc., thank them for visiting and then politely shut the door.
