Jasper Georgia Congregation Uproar

    Anyone in Jasper Georgia?

    I heard through the grapevine that there's a hoopla going on within the local congregation and Bethel. The local congregation decided to take contributions for the non-JW community. (This can be a poor area, and a rich area too). Bethel got wind of this fund and demanded it be sent to Bethel for the Watchtower's use. Now, the brothers and sisters are mad because they thought they were right and see Bethel's taking as that...a taking.

    Anyone out there that can confirm this story that I got from a reliable source?

    JW and WT gossip is always so juicy. I anticipating like watching Days Of Our Lives.

    Why didn't they just donate as individuals privately and directly to a non-jw organization that helps local non-jws?

    God forbid some JWs feel compassion for people and want to be charitable!

    What did they expect?..The WBT$ isn`t a Charity..

    All that money being donated to people that are going to die anyway..

    Would really Piss Off the WBT$.

    The WBT$ will take that Donated Money..

    Loan it back to the JW`s who donated it,at 3% interest..

    And..

    Build a Kingdom Hall or Assmbly Hall..

    Then eventually sell the Real Estate..And..Put the Money in a WBT$ Bank Account..

    It`s no wonder the WBT$ needs to think for Jehovah`s Witness`s..

    Tricky. If the 'congregation" (elders? platform announcements?) decided to organize this then I can understand the WTS stepping in.

    If it was done informally, like in KH parking lot conversations or home gatherings, it still is going get attention from them, and they will not approve.

    Blondie's question is a good one. But still problematic if they are donating in the name of the local JW Congregation.

    I also would like to know the particulars if this is not just a rumor.
