Why is it Biblically wrong to smoke tobacco?

    Good question. It isn't.

Moreso - why is it wrong to even farm or sell tobacco?

    See above answer.

The JWs have no more authority to say this than the Mormons do to outlaw alcohol or caffiene.

    Dang skippy.

What i dont understand is that standing up for the National Anthem is worship, but "every knee shall bend" to Christ isn't.

Well, I have heard the same thing, Sylvia - also that gambling was wrong because the soldiers "threw lots" over Jesus garments.

That's ironic, since the apostles cast lots to decide who was going to replace Judas. I guess in a few decades, that'll mean that gambling is scriptural.

Do you know, I can't remember the National Anthem being played at the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Game we attended at the new stadium. I may have been standing, though - in line to get beer. We could have toasted the team to success - can't remember that either...

We also had Turkey and Dressing in the Legends Club right before halftime.

Take that, Gerrit Losch - American Football, National Anthem, possible Toasting, and Thanksgiving Dinner all in one day.

At least I did not see anybody smoking inside the stadium.

BTW, the game was won by a team called the "Saints" - so add in babylonian religious references to the list of sins.

This is practically disfellowshipping behavior to the JWs - but just an ordinary Thanksgiving Day to normal people in Dallas, TX.

    Think about it.

When it comes to Jesus of Nazareth, it's called obeisance, Finger.

    Tee hee hee.

The WT is being indicted by its own words!

A thread like this one makes me realize that they (wt leaders) have picked out issues that guarantee that they will stand out as different. Any other reason or basis for some of these no-nos is simply not viable when put under scrutiny. I tend to struggle with an issue that is brought up from time to time on this board, namely are they victims like the general r&f or knowing participants. Some of the things that they have made into issues to cause so much anguish in the lives of the adherents suggest the latter. And the reason some just say "bastards"

The orchestra at my daughter's college played the National Anthem so beautifully that it made me choke up.

    Yeah, I said it!

    Take that WT.

    Bastards!

    Right.

    Take the no-blood thingy.

I was hospitalized a few weeks ago with severe hypertension and abdominal pain.

Imagine having to hassle with a doctor in such a scenario, and don't even mention while bleeding massively in an ER!

I said it before I saw your post; I'll say it again.

    BASTARDS!

Why is "whole" blood bad but "blood fractions" permissable?

This is the same question I asked the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society 4 years ago. The sent me a multipage letter answering this question.

As soon as I figure out how to post the PDF file of the letter on here I will start a thread with the Watchtower Societies letter.

I was always told- not researching for myself- that toasting was based on a superstition to scare away the demons. I don't know if that's true, it makes me want to research it now.

For the standing at the anthem, I never heard that you couldn't stand. I pretty much stood everytime to show respect but didn't put my hand on my heart. I must say, though, that I remember sitting a few times, I think it may have just been out of confusion. But I wanna say that "new light" revealed that you could now stand just don't put your hand on your heart.

Again, whatever the GB said was ok, we did, since they are the channel between us and Jah (so where does that leave jesus)
