Why I Like the "Proclaimers" Book

Don, thank you for bringing these things to our attention.

I really liked the Proclaimers book- especially the section showing the society's branch and printing facilities. But this book came out in 1993- it has not been updated, and really needs to be. I guess it won't be because the GB does not want us to have the updated info.

The 1975 YB was the only one to ever feature the US. They have had updated histories of many countries they had covered in the past in the YBs but they never feature the US. I wonder why? A lot they wish to hide?

Don, I loved the book. The entire concept of what we taught in 1919 being the keystone of JW is very effective. I heartily recommend this to everyone who is thinking about confronting a believer. Good points in your book.

Faith in Action - Out of Darkness

at 4:10 - "The Bible Students were coming to the realization that Christ's Presence began in 1914..."

Is it safe to say that the above documentation proves this statement to be a conclusive falsehood, or just extremely misleading?

    TD,

You said to me, "I honestly don't understand the strategic advantage of putting ammunition in the hands of JW apologists."

    Please explain what you meant.

    Agonus,

Is it possible to quantify, "Coming to the realization"? Either sombody realizes something or they do not. The fuzziness of claiming that someone is at some indeterminate state prior to a realization is difficult to definitely falsify.

    Don

My experience is that JW's will pounce on anything they believe is less than accurate as an excuse to dismiss everything else you say.

    Agonus,

You quoted the "Out Of Darkness" video where it said, ""The Bible Students were coming to the realization that Christ's Presence began in 1914..."

You then asked, "Is it safe to say that the above documentation proves this statement to be a conclusive falsehood, or just extremely misleading?"

It seems to be an example of the video producer's ability to say something that is true but that misleads the reader in the process. Watchtower writers have always had this ability. I suspect he got that quote from a Watchtower publication. Perhaps he got it from the Proclaimers book.

The above statement doesn't allow the reader to notice that Russell never came to the above realization. And according to the Proclaimers book Rutherford didn't either.

To go beyond things that are written and make the 'truth' from presumption, all seems to be an acute form of Eisegesis.

Don's reasoning is brilliant. The proclaimers book is amazing. On pg 135?? there is a photo of a tract with a headline that says something to the effect "the end of the world in 1914" That is what they were teaching. It can also help someone to see that everything that Russell taught was cobbled together from other sources. Despite what Witnesses are taught to believe nothing Russell taught was original.
