psac: well, im aware of the fact science has progressed since the 8th century :-). Im trying to examine the type of argument. my point is that i dont think its very sound, not even as a proof of thor in the 8th century, and not today when its applied to the big bang or the fine-tuning question.

Aww Sue, you stole my thunder! I was going to say I know Thor exists because I have issues 143-149.

    Bohm,

I put this in another thread, but I thnk it got lost in the shuffle.

Suppose a tracking station started picking up 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17... i.e. prime numbers in order -- coming via some method from somewhere in space and this went on without end.

Which hypothesis would you consider the better one?

A: That some intelligence exists in space that is transmitting these numbers.

B: That some non-intelligent, naturalistic source is generating these numbers.

    Hah ha ha ha, Ding!!!

Or that some intelligent species "out there" picked up the "Voyager" craft with such information on a [was it a platinum disk???] disk within it, and finally deciphered it...

My question really goes to whether a non-intelligent, naturalistic explanation is really the correct (or even most likely) explanation for everything that we don't understand.

Are we talking of a personal god as defined in historical books - or a pervading intelligence that defines the unity found in the universe?
