At some stage in the future they will drop 1914, they can't keep it alive forever. And when this happens, it will simply be new light and mean nothing to the average JW, except that its a sign that we are even closer to the end.

They will never drop 1914. At the best they might delink a few more prophetic events claimed to have happened in 1914 and shift them into the future, which they have gradually been doing already. But they are too afraid to take the big leap and admit that Jesus enthronement as king obviously didn't happen in 1914, although many of the GB privately know it.
And since most JWs are dumb enough to swallow the insulting generation new light, they are dumb enough to always believe in 1914.
Just about all of Christendom has not set a time of Christi's return or that mankind is living in the end times since 1914 as proclaimed by the WTS .
Why ? because Jesus said not to set a time on God's own sacred time.
Christendom may gotten some things wrong but they may have gotten a few right as well.
Then there's the commercialized charlatans like the Watchtower Corporation and its doctrines.
The JWs religion was founded on false pretenses that were more involved in proliferating literature to the public than actually adhering to he teachings given by Jesus Christ.
It truly enacted as fear mongering apocalyptic publishing house.
No wonder the GB heads to have to admit that the GB of the past have made errors and that they are just imperfect men.
Good ol' Larsinger / JCanon / whatever other alias he picked.
I've got a soft spot for harmless loons.
There might be a drop of 75% of mentions of 1914 over the last 30/40 years. But how many fewer words appear in the magazines in total these days. It might be a similar drop in total number of words. So in proportion 1914 might not be any less prominent.
It was included in the new Bible. And it's centre stage of the crazy new overlapping doctrine.
1914 cannot been abandoned, too many pins and passwords should be changed...
Seriously, the whole cult is builded on 1914 and depends on it, WT won't shoot themselves in the foot.
1914 has to be abandoned...in the future...if the GB want the cult to survive...that is why the February 2017 study edition of the WT lays the groundwork for any future massive doctrinal change by admitting the GB are not inspired or are not infallible.
So in the future they can and will have to change 1914 but in a way that will not affect dubs.
But not in 2016, not in 2017 or even the near future but at some point it does have to go.
Maybe not today, and maybe not tomorrow, but someday, and for the rest of our lives, the Watchtower will abandon the 1914 doctrine.
"the number of times "1914" is mentioned in the Watchtower...."
According to WT, Gentile Times end in 1914 and everything else WT teaches about WT organization is based upon 1914. --So 1914 teaching is not going away depending on times.

Without the coincidence of 1914 and WW1, I can't see any way they can claim to be God's channel. It's the only time that a prediction sort of came true that they could tie into the whole theme of being chosen by Jehovah. Of course, this would also destroy the whole 607 timeline, further laying bare the whole rickety construct. They'd be left with the argument that they were chosen because they say so. Not very convincing.
No, I definitely think they have to keep 1914 and repackage it to fit some new light that also includes the overlapping generation. Maybe even more refinement on the old faithfull and discreet slave bit. Who knows?
