Paranormal Avtivity is one of the recent ones to freak me out. Alot of scare for the money considering he only spent $15,000 on the whole production.

On the light side I liked a pretty recent one by Woody Allen, Scoop. The Thirteen Floor was a good one that gave you something to think about.

It has to be the trilogy of "Lord of the Rings." Also, my wife and I just started watching DVDs of the TV series "The Dresden Files". It is about a modern wizzard living in Chicago. It is well made and has very original dialog and ideas. The tales meld the wonder and fun of the Harry Potter series, but with an adult tone and attitude.
