I like Mr. Falcon's analogy of North Korea: The JWs are like the North Koreans. Kept cold, hungry and not given any outside information. They are told that the outside world is evil and bad. There is just no good way to look at it. Stepford Wives. Robots.

^I LOL'd at this. Very true. Has anyone seen the movie Tangled? The daughter asks the phony "mother" on many occasions why she can't leave the tower. Her mother says it because the world is full of horrible people who want nothing more than to harm her. ...Kind of ironic really.

Sorry for sequential posting. Another thought. ...

My mum always discusses the badness of the "world" And say how many current witnesses who have left always come back because they realize it's not all "hunky dorey". I actually think there are many more who DONT come back as examples. Just look at this forum.

Been that way since the Rutherfird years. I too belived, not all, but enough to keep me a jw, at my masters call.

There are good people, so-so people, bad people and down right evil people. Even amonst the jw's,wtbts is no more spirit lead than my cat. Or, anybody for that matter.

We were going to pet lions, cuddle lambs, while those evil devil loving worldy people would be brid food. When you step back, totaly leave, get it out of your system you see how totaly sick and depraved you were to even belive, let alone accept the teaching. There's no substance to it. It's cartoon thinking, like the scary stories you tell around a campfire at a Gril Scout meeting. Deep inside yourself YOU KNOW a loving God would never do those things.

What view of "The World" did I have when I was , In....?

I was polite to worldly people,I worked alongside worldly people but I never allowed myself to get too close to them - After all every Witness "knows" that :

Worldly people are only nice to your face but they cannot be trusted

Worldly people are slackers on the job and only Witnesses are good employees (despite the contrary evidence all around me!)

A worldly person will steal or cheat if he gets the chance

Worldly women will drop their knickers at and seduce you if they can - so you had better be careful !

Only later on , too late to make a meaningful fresh start, did I realize that all of the above was complete rubbish - "The World" is made up of people , just people..Most of them are decent ordinary folk, even if they do and like some things that I do not, We can be different, that is O K

I only regret so many decades of blinkered prejudice, at the hands of The Watchtower Society.....

I was scared and uncomfortable around anyone that wasn't a JW due to the constant ragging on how awful and unhappy all world'ies were. Now I'm finding out that non JW's seem pretty normal. That and they are very accepting of you and horrified by the JW religion and how you get treated by your family when leaving. I am really digging these worldly people.

many current witnesses who have left always come back because they realize it's not all "hunky dorey".

In reality, this is usually because everyone they know or love has shunned them, or because they have never learned any skills to make it financially or socially in the real world

It is funny that people have said since leaving JWs that we are more open and relaxed. As a Jw you are constantly on your guard monitoring your own actions and those of others. Social interactions are stilted and uncomfortable because you worry that you may miss an opportunity to witness or that they may ask you something awkward. It is a world where people on the outside are bad and you don't like people on the inside either. You think if brother so and so is the worst example of a witness he is still better than worldly people so how awful must they all be.

As a JW it is like living in a sealed box where you are not allowed to hold a thought of your own and where you are not allowed to question. You are kept so busy at the treadmill that you don't think to stop and get off and see that there may be something better.

Hit it right on the nose Bluesbrother. It's funny how they judge worldy people so harshly. but looking at the in the organization, you get 5 less hours in service last month, youll get elders knocking at your door to shepard you...friends might label you at bad association...the list goes on. Frankly there's a lot more "judging" going on at the KH. And what one person says goes.
