The YouTube video below is a 'Best Of' compilation from a British TV show called 'The Scheme'. I'm told it's like a Scottish version of 'Jersey Shore'. As a Mississippi native, I can honestly say that many of these folks would feel right at home, here in the Deep South. This shouldn't come as a surprise, if American redneck culture is a transplant of the Scots-Irish culture.

WOW! VIII wasn't kidding! These ppl are indeed uttlerly unintelligible. I couldn't understand even half of it. The only ones who could possibly be worse in this regard would be the Welsh. Egads!

I see it the other way round actually. Traditionally Scots have been a very industrious people, adherents to the Protestant work ethic and all that. It's the global capitalism promoted by the neoliberal elite, principally in the United States, that has produced a workless underclass in many disparate regions of the planet. So I see the problem as an American export not the other way around.

fantastic programme. They had to delay the third episode as someone was arrested and ended up awaiting trial. I'm Scottish (East coast) and had difficulties in understanding the accents (West Coast).
