    Hey DrewCoul..

I have never heard of any Witness that I know not eating hot dogs for any reason. I know about the blood sausage thing,
but as a kid, and even as an adult witness, we would have cookouts and have hamburgers and hot dogs. I never knew of a problem with it.

JW`s in these parts would never eat a pork weiner..Ever!..LOL!!

Turkey or Beef Wieners are fine..

Even looking at a Pork Wiener scares them..

    BLOODDDD!!!!!!

I recall when I first joined the cult in 1983 all the JWs used to pick the pepperoni off their pizzas because it contained "by-products" which might include blood. I thought this was crazy, but went along with it when other JWs were around. I harboured the "secret sin" of eating pepperoni when I was alone, but I always kept a wary eye open for any JWs who might see me. I was very happy when an elder told us he called the Pizza Hut head office and was assured there was no blood in the pepperoni. We all went to Pizza Hut after field circus and openly ate pepperoni on our pizzas.

Now I try to avoid eating meats that appear to be 'prefabricated', both for health reasons and flavour. I prefer to grind my own meat and make my own sausages, burgers, etc.

What is even more nuts than picking the pepperoni off the pizza is ordering pizza with pepperoni in the first place if you are just going to pick it off.

LOL. In the city where I reside there's a neighborhood with plenty of Jewish and Middle Eastern folks, many are students. There's several pizza shops in this neighborhood, and its hilarious looking at all the young Jews and Muslims who eat pepperoni pizza. I'm thinking to myself, "fellas thats pork!! You're not supposed to be eating that!!"

    Speaking of pizza.......time for lunch!

Come on, we were JWs, you know! We were too cheap to order normal pizzas, and ordered their single-serving pre-fab stuff which always included pepperoni. They were about 8" in diameter and pretty boring.

I was born in the 70's and I remember all the Witnesses would only buy Schneider's or Shopsy's brand wieners because they were Jewish. Maple Leaf was a big no-no because at that time those hot dogs contained 'by-products'. It was the same for pepperoni/salami... we would never, ever eat those unless we inquired first or read the ingredients. To this day I check the ingredients. The whole blood thing became pretty much a phobia for me. I'm surprised that so many other JWs have never heard of this phenomenon! (And like one of the posters mentioned above - I also called Pizza Hut and got the all-clear on their pepperoni!).

So if this is no longer a common practice or suggested by the organization, how exactly are JWs supposed to 'abstain from blood' in a dietary way? Just not eat blood sausage and avoid drinking goblets of blood or what? LOL!
