Thanks nic, for the malbec recommendations. I like very dark red wines. Whites, on occasion. I often drink port, porto rei, lbv, to be more specific.

Ah, yes. How could we not mention desert wines and the like?

I do enjoy a good port or sherry as well. Also on the list are late harvest and ice wines. There are a great variety of those that I enjoy too.

Port is a little much for me. I like reds though. I like Merlot's, Cabs and the like. I buy the cheaper stuff like 2 buck chuck, but have had some from $100 bottles and man that stuff was good. Anyone here ever make the trip to Napa valley and do the wine tasting thing?

I keep the port in the freezer, so it's like a sweet wine slush. Mmmm good.

Just to add a JW element to this thread:

Rev 6:6 "...and do not harm the olive oil and the wine."

We can't be living in the last days. Wine is cheaper than ever right now. There's a global glut and it's a buyers market.

"Harm" all the vino you want. Just don't "harm" yourself too much in the process.

I just discovered a wine I love: Rodney Strong's 2007 Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon. I see in California where it's made, it's $12.99/bottle. I just paid $22.95 for a bottle of it......one of the down sides to living in Canada. I used to love Robert Mondavi's Cabernet Sauvignon and I still like it, but I also have discovered I like the wines from Chile and Argentina too......

Fantastic values and quality in the big reds from S. America. Cabs and Malbecs. Big and chewy.

    Yum.

I like a nice Reisling or a Gewurtztraminer . I'm a fan of the semi-sweets...not to sweet, but not too dry. I cook with wine all the time...but I just use cheap red and cheap white for that.

BTW, when exactly is "Sun's over the yardarm" in your world?

    Traditionally, 5:00.

Love port, don't like sherry, but the late harvest and ice wines can be pretty intriguing.

ain't it the truth? I just about weep whenever I visit a wine store in the US, wanting to buy all of it and smuggle it back north.

I cook with wine all the time...

me too, but I'm drinking it while I'm cooking. Hardly ever actually put it in the food I'm cooking.

CoonDawg: " I cook with wine all the time..."

    (Old joke alert)

...sometimes I even add it to the food.

    Badda-boom.

(Dang! Nickolas beat me to the corny joke punch!)
