I agree, keep it in the family, its nobody elses business what you celebrate and you shouldn't be criticised. If you get questioned on it, head for Romans 14.

    Have a great day!

It's hard at first to start celebrating things that you were taught were evil... Everything takes time so go with what your comfortable with. As the years pass you get more and more involved! Only took me two years and i'm the biggest pagan out! Lol. What you don't want to do is do things that your not comfortable with. Trust me the guilt isn't worth it... Get you son some pressies, a cake is always nice, maybe a carpet picnic with a DVD of your son's choice, and just enjoy being together and celebrating the day that your son took his first breath. If you feel comfortable with it maybe some balloons, but only if your ok with it. I think the first one [birthdays, xmas, easter, halloween] is always hard. But what i found was when i did the one i couldn't wait for the next one. To be honest i live for these celebrations! I'm planning Babysprouts easter egg hunt as i write. Love them!

I pray you have a lovely day and son really enjoys his first birthday. Take lots of pictures as the joy on their faces when they see their presents is unforgetable.

    Peace

Baltar, quite simply the same logic the org uses against B-days can be used to ban anniversaries- pagan origins, glory to one person or a couple in the case of anniversaries...no record of 1st century Christians observing wedding anniversaries...probably don't need to get a whole lot deeper for young children. PM me if you want to talk more.
