Today's Wt. study - they started talking about mercy
and rules and Pharisees. Could they really be ready
to see the light of what Christianity is supposed to
    be?

Nope, they failed, once again, to make any real,
practical application of Jesus' example of mercy in
the face of rules. Imagine that in paragraph 20 (12/15), they
    could have asked:

Would you help a df'd person change a flat tire?
Would you hold a baby shower for a sister, pregnant
    out of wedlock and broke?
Would you shake hands with a person with AIDS?

By failing to give any real guidance, they only
succeed in proving themselves to be the abject slaves
of hard hearted theocratic Pharisees, once again.

    How sad indeed.

I've gotten to the point that when the WTBTS acts heartless and pharisical (which is all the time) I tell myself, "You know they're heartless, so when they behave in this heartless manner, WHY are you surprised?"

Makes sense to me. I try to let it roll off my back like a duck.

And what's worse is when they have the nerve to talk about how 'heartless' other religions are... or even how the Pharisees were.

It just pushes the knife in even further.

How thankful we were in our Hall for the
reminders of showing mercy to our fellow humans. Indeed
on must understand the circumstances of a fellow human
b4 making any decisions. Indeed we will continue to ask for Jehovahs
blessings as we continue and try to apply the principals in his word.

Would you shake hands with a person with AIDS?
    why wouldnt you?
have you ever been in that situation?

I wasn't even offered a cup of tea last week when I attended a book study in someone's home; I was last one I went to before that. All these poor mums with their kids in tow and not even a cuppa or a bikkie offered; where's the mercy in that?

When I was still attending the meetings (about 2 years ago), I had missed the Thurs. night meeting where they had read a letter from an older single sister in the cong. who had da'd herself. I also had never really absorbed the meaning of disassociation. Perhaps a Freudian slip on my part - perhaps I didn't want to know.

A younger sister & I were talking within the week where she told me about it. I didn't know the da'd sister - the younger one was her friend, who was quite upset. In essence, this was the conversation we had:

Sis - "I know the main reason she disassociated herself was because she was lonely. Nobody visited her when she was sick, and she was just lonely."

She was mad & hurt - and I responded:

Me: "Why don't you go over and visit with her - see if there's anything you can do to help her?"

    Sis - "I can't do that!"

    Me: "Why not?"

    Sis - "She's disassociated!"

on(e) must understand the circumstances of a fellow human
b4 making any decisions - nytele
This sister felt she understood her friend - but would offer no fellow feeling for her - because of policy of disassociation. She stopped being her friend and has never spoken to her again.

    Metatron,

I'm certain you used this example intentionally:

Would you help a df'd person change a flat tire?
This was one of the examples used in the Watchtower in 1971 when there appeared a brief respite in some of the harder line aspects of the treatment of disfellowshipped persons.

This was an exciting time when field service reporting, sacred service and disfellowshipping all seemed to be somewhat under review.

It all came crashing down a few years later when all the moderations were rescinded.

today's watchtower was pathetic. I didn't understand how they could not see the parallel to themselves.

Back in the days of Jesus, the Samaritans (and tax collectors as well!) were viewed and treated pretty much like df'd and da'd people are today. YET..Jesus chose to use a Samaritan in his parable that so aptly answered the question of: "Who is my neighbor?" It was the Samaritan that performed the act of kindess toward a man who belonged to the 'chosen race' while fellow 'chosen ones' chose to ignore his plight. Jesus chose a tax collector to be one of his beloved apostles.

Helping with a flat tire was mentioned here. True experience: A brother walks into the KH and I tell him hello. He grins and informs me that he's just passed up Brother J- who was on the side of the road changing a tire. I asked him why he didn't stop to see if he needed help and he promptly replied: "I didn't have time, I was almost late for the meeting already."

Another true experience: The announcement was made from the platform that a certain sister was in the hospital and that she would appreciate a visit from 'the friends'. I heard one sister tell another one after the meeting: "Well, I don't have time to go visit..I'm auxillary pioneering this month and I barely have the time to put in the rest of my time."

When is the last time you heard a C.O. give an example in one of his talks about a kindly sister or brother missing a meeting to help someone in need? When is the last time you heard a C.O. mention someone missing Saturday morning field service to go cut some elderly sister's lawn because she could not do it? When, if ever, is it stated from the platform that acts of kindness are preferred over meetings and field service? What happened to: "Go, then, and learn what this means, 'I want mercy, and not sacrifice.' For I came to call, not righteous people, but sinners." (Matt 9:13 NWT)???

    Waiting,

that's a bloody sad story. happened in my old hall too, just not with and elderly person.

    Hey French,

I know what you're saying, but in my old hall they used to have an organized help for the older people. Cutting lawns, etc. It was pretty sweet for the old people. They really appreciated it. I'm sure all halls weren't so fortunate.

What balls the WTBTS has to print a anti-pharasaical article. Their whole caste system is based on pharasaic views.
