It's really easy to twist statistics too. The media does it a lot. There's often some little bit left out that completely changes what it means.

They pull them out of a very dark smelly place. During my study, when they tried to show how the world is getting worse, I showed them FBI crime statistics that show crime got worse until about 1996, then rolled back and are now at around 1966 levels, for murder, robbery, etc.
I showed them the WT predictions of famine in 1975, and pointed out the population had doubled, which is impossible without food to construct new people out of, and there were high obesity rates.
I closed that chapter with a question that I never got an answer to, how has the past century been worse than the 14th century?
Crickets.
