:JWN Is Not The Same Place It Was Years Ago . . .

I would like to note that THIS above is the topic of this thread and I would like to also note that several people commented on things that were NOT on topic of this thread just to make themselves be heard.

I meant that in a kindly way, by the way.

Satanus said it all, by the way. Only those who were here "years ago" know how it was "years ago" and satanus was one of them. All the rest of the idiots are just making it up how it was "years ago." Simon knows. So do I. So does satanus.

Those who don't know, shouldn't say. Those who know, don't need to say. They know.

What other similar forums to this are there? Would this be considered the major one? I noticed a JW forum requires referral from another JW and they do not allow non-Witnesses there. Have some of you gone undercover there?

I have only been on here just over three years, lurked for a few months before that, so I cannot comment on the "Old Days".

But I have to say that it is an interesting ride to go back and read the threads from the beginning, amongst them are some real gems, great reasoning, terrific humour, and some even quite beautiful prose.

It is fascinating to see the evolution of the site, and to see a maturing too, the old doctrinal stuff does not need to be gone over time and again, because those "Giants upon whose shoulders we stand", have honed some succinct phrases that say it all.

Also we can thank Farkel for his constant contributions, always of solid gold quality, and his coining of the succinct phrase to get rid of time-wasters (see above). Satanus too has always been one of the "greats", so many have moved on, but others arise to replace, and in doing so as TD says, change the nature of the place a little, but change is inevitable, and often good.

I think it is a great, invaluable place, still with some of the best contributors anywhere on the Net.

But, dear New Friends take a trip down the old threads, you will learn a lot, and laugh a lot.

All you have to do is google "ex-jw forum" and you'll find a heap of other exjw sites. This is probably the oldest and largest of them out there.

This board HAS changed. Not for worst or better, it just has. Once upon a time it was a pro-JW board but it wasn't the only pro-JW forum at the time either. As Simon's beliefs changed, so did the board, and I remember it being spoken of on the pro-JW sites in hushed tones as "probably apostate". I remember being warned not to come here if I wanted to keep my faith, lol.

So it was a quiet little board with a few posts a day. Yes, that's right, just a few posts a day.

Then the horrible, stinking, nasty, foul-mouthed, foul-smelling posters of H20 decided to join and the board changed as a result. There were debates, swearing, fighting. The cafe shop suddenly became the new headquarters for the local bikie gang, so to speak. The board evolved yet again.

As posters come and go, of course the board is going to change. Yes, 5 or 6 years ago there was more sex talk across all the ex-JW boards. It was like they suddenly discovered they could talk about sex. Many women suddenly became bi or bi-courious. But times have changed. People are talking more about politics or environmental issues. Fights are not as dramatic as they have been. The site seems to have more of the cafe feel again.

It was totally different, it was a pro-jw board.

You mean to tell me this isn't a pro-jw board!

It was just an observation he was making about how things change and evolve. It was not a whine. :)

Yes. Just an observation. Internet discussion of any kind has a certain "feel" to it. --Difficult to describe but very real.

For example, you can discuss issues related to the JW faith with a group of born-again Christians. That discussion will have an entirely different "feel" than a similar discussion with a group of xJW's. The perspective is entirely different.

Of course a large discussion forum like JWN is much more complicated because there are many more dynamics at work. Like a kaleidoscope, the mix is constantly tumbling and changing.

It seems to have gotten tamer and has less flaming than it did 10 years ago.

Sounds like an upgrade to me.
