Was there a white man in the 19th century who WASN'T a racist?
Even those "enlightened" members of society who were tolerant and accepting of other races were racist by today's standards. Bashing Darwin for this is absurd.

The word has a fairly specific meaning in biology and that was the sense in which Darwin was using it. The idea is that the human species can be separated into strains different enough to justify further classification below the level of species.
Since Darwin's time, that idea has been thoroughly repudiated by science.

thanks for the real quote in context. i get so annoyed with pulling stuff out of context and not citing references properly. they are very non-academic in their approach.. but then academia is anathema..... so it figures......... dumb.

In Darwin's time they thought non-Caucasian people were a different species. In the mean time this has been fixed but there are still differences in the several races of people (for good or for bad). The thing is that as Darwin predicted, those races are unifying (interracial couples are not that unique anymore) and diversifying - evolving so to say and the best traits for survival will remain within a few centuries as the climate changes and people live in different situations.

The WTS is one to talk about race when all their bible characters depicted in their litter-ature are white as if non whites never existed in those times.

It has always amused me how the WT literature and calendars depict Jesus as a well groomed white middle class American who has just had his hair cut by a top Brooklyn stylist lol.
To try and accuse Darwin of being a racist is rather unfair I feel, as he was living in a different time period when many white people were indoctrinated from childhood into believing they were superior human beings.
