They don't tell you that the Watchtower is what you will obey; not the Bible and not the law of the land. They don't tell you that inept elders who have no training in child molestation or domestic violence are the ones who investigate such as sins instead of crimes.
What they DON'T tell you

People who have been in for decades have no idea what JW doctrine is. It's mind-boggling to get into it with a long-time JW about their total ignorance of actual JW beliefs and history. You can see the blank stares at the KH, while offensive, blasphemous, idolatrous Watchtowers are being read and know they're not paying any attention to the ridiculous tripe being spewed. This is how the "beliefs" and completely emotional, irrational mindset is inculcated. Cognitive dissonance is sewn subconsciously in a congregation of half-asleep members who don't even realize what they're being brainwashed with. They're totally oblivious to what they supposedly believe. When pioneers come to my door, I ask them questions and their answers absolutely indicate they're either totally clueless or bald-faced liars.
If they've played the social politics, all-about-appearances game right, they have no clue how JCs work or what any of the man-made rules are. It's all a popularity contest and pleasing other people. The average JW isn't interested in the substance, but paying lip-service to substance make their shallow "glory before men" religion sound far more important and noble than it is.

What I wasn't told:
Baptismal vows- never saw them beforehand, didn't even see them until visiting this site.
Jesus is not mediator for the great crowd, only the 144k
What Russell really taught about 1914 and where he got that date from
What they were teaching when they were selected as f&ds in 1919
I think the above should be required to study before baptism.
Mistranslations in the NWT
The full list of disfellowshipping offenses
That elders will not be removed if they confess to a sin they committed two to three years before their appointment, while a rank and file would probably be df'd for not confessing sooner
That at some point in the future, after baptism, I would rather die at Armageddon than spend another day at a meeting or in service or under their rule. Okay, can't use that one!

At a District Convention in the early 80's, there was a statement in a talk on apostacy....
You walked freely into this organization, you can walk freely out

When they study with people they don't tell them more than what the new recruit wants to hear and for most part the teacher doesn't know much of their own past eitherway. My MIL said that they don't hide anything and that she would tell them the past date if they ask :) LOL Couldn't say more to her at the time since my wife was coming down - but that's the point, those in the know hide the past from the recruiters. They imagine it's new light. Another point I brought out with MIL was that everyone outside of wts is to die which they don't say but another BS came out of her that they tell people that it's upto Jehovah who will make it through Armageddon while that's totally false as we all know that WTS says that only active dubs will make it (Watchtower Sep 2010 p29?)
Those who allow themselves to discuss or debate are usually deceitful in their potrayal of wts as they forget they are speaking to those who were there once and who know the facts how we were told to present the "good news" to the public.

That is so true. I have learned more about JW's and their beliefs and history in the two years looking at this site than in the 60+ years as a JW before.
For what it's worth I have also learned more about the Bible here than in all those years attending KH.

How about the two witness rule?
What about the fact that you will loose all of your family and friends if you leave.
How about no more association with your blood relatives, No Really, NONE.
No more Holidays at all, none.
Meetings and all work is mandatory for salvation.
The bible was not written for you, just the 144,000
Judas partook of the bread and wine.
the list goes on an on of the disclosures that should be made but are not.
Oh and here is the best one, nobody gives a s**t about you after you are babtized, you are on your own no matter what the WTBTS says should happen.

I'm in the middle of an ongoing debate w/some JWs and they are asserting that everyone knows what they're getting into
Would a potential convert in the year 1955 have known that transfusion would become a disfellowshipping offense in a few years? Sure transfusion was frowned on at the time, but so were vaccinations. The disapproval of vaccination was allowed to quietly die, while the disapproval of transfusion was nurtured by the synergy of scriptural interpretation driven by bad science.
The inaccuracy in this individual's claim lies in the fact that a convert does not simply agree with what he learns and accepts in the period prior to baptism and therefore cannot possibly know what they are getting into. The convert must subsequently agree to any changes that are made in the future and mentally "turn on a dime" and stop believing one thing and start believing something new at the drop of a hat.
