Hey everybody, I'm in the middle of an ongoing debate w/some JWs and they are asserting that everyone knows what they're getting into when they are studying and getting baptized and that nobody forces anyone to become a JW and that you can leave anytime you want. Ok, we know that's NOT true. How would you counter that argument? What are some things that JW's DON'T tell you when you're studying but hit you with once you're baptized and indoctrinated?
What they DON'T tell you

Tell me honestly how a 10 year old (or insert any age under 18) knows anything about life. They think they do and can answer all the questions provided by the ever loving GB, but what do they really know?

They don't tell you that their doctrine says that Jesus did NOT die for you, rather he died for the 144,000 elite and you're "saved" by associating with them so you can get through Armaggedon and are STILL not saved for 1000 years after. Not disclosed while studying. Guarenteed.

Of course you can leave any time that you want, BUT....
If your family is in, they will all ignore you once you leave...
If you have come in from the outside, they have encouraged you to leave all your old friends behind....
If you leave, all your new friends will find you distasteful. The most common complaint that I hear from those that leave is the trials in making new friends. However, the friends that they do make are more loyal and are not fairweather friends, on the whole.

Sure you can leave....any time you like....as long as they get to tell you what a horrible mistake you're making and that you're throwing you're life away. And that by leaving you are turning your back on god and everything he has done for you and you will lose all your family if they are a part of it. No they aren't going to tell any of this to you, if they did, there wouldn't be over 6 million involved in voluntary isolation. I hope that made sense...kinds went on a rampage, sorry.

It's hard to counter these arguments because the JW believes them. Most JW's are fully unaware of the real truth or else they wouldn't be JW's.
Tell him they say nothing about having to accept any and all doctrinal changes or else be disfellowshipped. They say nothing about what a minor disagreement leading to disfellowship will mean- the shunning.
They say nothing about how many times Watchtower has changed doctrines and how many times they were wrong about the time of the end- 1914, 1925, during WW2, before the 1914 generation passed away, during the 20th Century. Those are the major ones they promised. The JW can argue that they didn't promise, but they did- you can certainly say they led people to believe those dates.
Tell him they need a new study book to explain the "overlap generation" and they need to teach the new doctrine to recruits. Tell him they need to teach people how they changed the "no-blood" doctrine to "fractions."
Tell him they teach nothing about how WTS was an NGO member of the United Nations while proclaiming that members need to get out of Babylon the Great and the beast. Tell him they don't inform members about pedophiles within the congregation, the rules have changed some on that but existing information still exists on existing members and nobody is allowed to warn parents.

They don't really explain who the Faithful and Discreet Slave are- not in the study books, not in the baptism questions- only the terms for the slave are used and a Bible verse- these are the spiritual leaders who , according to WT folklore are directing the GB, but no-oobody has ever seen a real live one in the flesh. Put up or shut up, I say.

Hi Black Man, If you can get a JW to answer questions authentically without relying on WTBTS strategies/tactics/sayings/slogans, the JW might begin to doubt their beliefs. I would start by asking JWs the following questions:
· Will you continue to study the Bible with a convert, who says that he does not want to be baptized a JW? Why?
· Will you study the Bible with a convert, who does not want to study the WTBTS literature? Why?
· Do JWs follow the teachings of Jesus Christ or the WTBTS? Do JWs spend more time reading WTBTS literature, or the 4 Gospels? If JWs spend more time reading WTBTS literature, then why do they call themselves Christians? What do JWs think of 1Co 3 in its entirety without using WTBTS literature to interpret it for them?
· If you read the entire paragraph of Mt 24:45-51, is Mt 24:45 a prophesy or a warning? Why?
The following are examples (in bold) of stalling tactics/sayings/slogans that JWs will use to change subjects or continue with their original line of reasoning:
· That is an interesting thought. Ask them why is it interesting?
· You are not ready to learn Bible Principles. Why do you feel that I am not ready?
· JWs are not perfect and do not know everything. Ask them why they feel JWs are not perfect, and which JWs do they feel are are not perfect? Or, if JWs are not perfect, why do they feel that they are the only true Christians?
· The light keeps getting brighter and brighter. Ask them to explain why the WTBTS has flipped flopped on specific doctrines?
I hope that the comments from other posters and what I have written is helpful to you.Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,
