If God created Man,why is the modern vocal tract posited so people are more likely to choke to death. cf. Eve Spoke-Human Language and Human Evolution,pp139-140
The position of the Larynx means that modern humans are more likelier to choke to death.
Would a loving God create man in such a way that he would be likely to choke to death
i think that this question, along with the well-known 'backwards eye design' issue, falls under the umbrella of the popular creationist argument: "let's see you do any better, smart-ass."
If God made man, then why do we have appendices? Or toes? We don't clamber around in trees or eat twigs and nuts all day anymore!
"I see no good reasons why the views given in this volume should shock the religious sensibilities of anyone." -- Charles Darwin, The Origin Of Species, 1869.
* If God created us directly, why did he give us tail bones? * If God created us directly, why did he give us useless organs like the appendix? * If God created us directly, why is it that so much of our DNA remains unused? * If God created us directly, why are our retinas in backwards? * If God created us directly, why is it that a tail appear on our embryo? * If God created us directly, why is it that simian DNA is 99% like our own, including most of the unused DNA? * If God created us directly, why are there fossils of "almost humans" around? * If God created us directly, why are there common defects in our visual system such as the Waterfall Effect? * If God created us directly, why do we have Mitochondria? * If God created us directly, why can we choke on our food? * If God created us directly, why do we sleep? * If God created us directly, why do humans have goosebumps, considering we don't have enough body hair to get any effect from them (other than looking silly)?

...and we only have two legs, which, compared to 4-legged creatures, makes us more prone to falling down and hurting ourselves. Ohhh the humanity! Also, our eyes are placed in a frontward facing position, unlike fish and other animals, which makes us more prone to being killed by people who run red lights, does this make me question whether God made us, no. As far as choking goes, slow down, enjoy your meal, like it's your last.
"I think about life And I think about death And neither one particularly appeals to me" - Morrissey
mozzer: i think youve totally missed the point of this line of questioning. all the examples you mentioned have obvious benefits, a trade-off you receive at giving up the benefits of the alternatives. the ones being cited by janh and badboy have no discernible benefit. the question is, why would an all-powerful creator make choices like this? was he unable to come up with a better approach?
When you start digging into biology you find more and more mysteries that only deepen when you compare them with the Bible. One of my favorites is why are most of men's sperm not designed to impregnate a woman's egg but instead are designed to find and destroy other men's sperm by either delivering chemical warheads that kill them or by making barriers to other men's sperm inside the woman? They let sperm of their own kind through but block out other sperm. Sounds to me like an evolutionary process here and not creation unless GOD planned on having women to have multiple sex partners (note this same phenomena is also apparent in other species as well).
You can also look at the DNA for some interesting clues about the idea of divine creation being bunk. Why is there massive amounts of foreign DNA from other species in our own DNA? Why is there so much "nonsense" DNA?
I will add one more here to the list as well, why is it that when you make a chart that shows both the average number of heart beats per minute compared with body size, that you see a clear correlation between all species: including man? It turns out that with mammals that we all seem to have a similar number of heart beats. If an animal sleeps most of its life...it lives a little longer.
There was a Scientifc American magazine last year that showed many of the "mistakes" that evolution made with the human body. You might want to see if you can find that as it is quite interesting to read.
