We are not mere flukes of evolution, because the mechanism of evolution, natural selection, is not a process of chance. It is precisely the opposite.

Good point of course but as unshakled said our particular bonanza is also the result of a number of chance events. Our ancestors almost went extinct more than once. The fact that Homo sapiens appeared and succeeded was never inevitable

Perhaps not. But over the life of the Universe, I'd guess that the chance of something like what we are happening once are decent.

Yes you are possbly right. When you look at the many examples of convergent evolution we see how often life "discovers" similar solutions

    So check this out:

I made this post within the same minute that you made the one I am quoting.

Get over yourself Sab, we are apes with big brains. We have evolved a body that has wonderful potential that is unmatched by any other creature but that is nothing more than a fluke of evolution.

How was it made sure that we were the only ones with these "big brains"?

And once again I have no idea what the question is.....

And once again this is as fun as it was yesterday.

Why the gap in intelligence? The Blue Ribbon goes to the humans and our mentally disadvantaged could run circles around 2nd place. Now I'm not talking about efficiency or intuition I am talking about higher intelligence so don't go on ranting about how Wolves hunt or how fleas just don't f*cking ever die.

Neaderthals had average brain sizes a big bigger than ours but they were intellectually "limited". Their tools hardly changed over thousands of years. Homo sapiens have developed technology exponentially. Apparently its about brain organisation. We got lucky

Take a look at my brain, it has evolved bigger than a mouse's, thankfully that makes me a thousand times more intelligent ......... Woo Hoo !

Take that and smoke it Sabawhichamacallits
