In the new WT, the latest Gilead class is featured. How would you like this kind of "encouragement"?

Anthony Morris of the Governing Body
explained the meaning of the Scriptural
phrase “the dread of Jehovah.” (2 Chronicles
19:7) Those words do not refer to any kind of
morbid terror but, rather, to an intense desire
to do what is right, a respect so intense
and sincere as to be characterized by nervous
trembling. “Take that kind of dread with
    you to your missionary assignment,”
    Brother
    Morris exhorted the students.

So, if I tremble, I am missionary worthy? What if I take a dump in my pants? Where would that get me?

LOL In the Transformers Universe, there's a faction of the Autobots(good guys) known as The Wreckers. They're like the Navy Seals of the Autobots, they handle the down and dirty jobs and are largely autonomous. There was a series done called Last Stand of the Wreckers, and it focused on a handful of new recruits selected to join the team. During their orientation, they were given a speech by one of the leading Wreckers, an Autobot named, Springer. He told the knew recruits, "Welcome to the team. Just be prepared. Sometimes in the Wreckers, your first day, could be your last." All of the recruits, minus one gets killed in this 5 issue series.

That reminded me of the "dread encouragement." Isn't this one of the reasons AllTimeJeff realized this religion was full of crap? He went to a foreign country and dang near died and the Watchtower didn't give a rat's tail about him. He would have died, and they would have chalked it off like, "oh well. These things happen."

How sad to live a life of dread and nervous trembling toward someone claiming to love you. Not a happy life at all.

As I asked about this Morris guy on an "overlapping" thread :) ,, wasn't Morris in the military earlier in his life. He is scarey sounding.

Do not hesitate to say, ‘I
don't know.' If your education has been effective,
then the more you learn, the more
you realize how little you really know."

too bad the gb don't take their own counsel.

But isn't it a morbid fear that makes one tremble?

Never understood the fear of god.

    Well, that didn't help.

The whole purpose of Gilead is to get you to think that Jehovah picked the Governing Body and the 4 Presidents of the WTBTS. If you believe that, then yeah, there is dread upon you.

Think about it. The average missionary makes it just 2 years. 56 people a class. 112 missionaries a year. It's a numbers game. The more they can scare up, the better off they will be.

ATJ is right - I can name multiple ex-missionaries that "got sick" and had to come back home, etc. Glad your www donations are working just like you thought they would be.

Most go back to local congos of their country of origin, often USA (Now I'm thinking in the words of Homer Simpson 'USA, USA, USA!') back on topic... a husband or wife - one of which got 'it' bad - now back home 'helping' out the local cong. What a joke. One guy I know is so messed up he can't give a bible reading. Has to go to multiple 'worldly' doctors for the rest of his life to help him cope.

Another, was in the same class as Awakened at Gilead. Got real sick in Africa - came back, took a job of commercial window cleaning that should have have been bidded out to the most qualified, but somehow, it went to him - hmmm -Jah's direction and blessing or ... religious nepostism???

    Another - wife major depression

Another - wife serious African-caused illness - now husband regrets not having learned real job skills and is biiter that he he cleans commercial restaurant ovens for a living (althoug I think he should count his blessings tht he even scored that job).

Oh - and all this is just in one circuit!

Finally - I just found out a semi-retarded guy that I grew up with and was home schooled, is a Gilead missionary in S. America. I wish I was joking.

Has the age restriction for Gilead students been raised?

Back in 2005 a person around 42 years of age was accepted into the school.
