Would God the father pre-exist the other two? If not, what would their purpose be, what function did they serve?

    Love... fellowship

Yes, but God lacks for nothing, right? So why fellowship?

If you are referring to the Trinity, then no. All are eternal and preexistent, none was ever without the others.

God has relationship and fellowship within himself, so no, God lacks for nothing. The Trinity is a perfect love in perfect relationship. This is a part of the inner life of God as believed by Christians.

The other two in the trinity - God the son and God the holy spirit. Prior to the universe, what's the purpose of God the Son and God the holy spirit? Prior to creation why would there even be a God the son and God the holy spirit? Both of those imply they have a kind of function to fulfill, so what was their function prior to the existence of the universe? In other words, why break God down into a trinity if there was no creation? It's taught that God has always existed even before he created everything, so did the trinity exist prior to creation even though there would be no function for God the son and God the holy spirit?

That isn't true. The bible comes out clearly and states that Jesus is the begotten son of God. Begotten meaning

    1. (especially of a male parent) to procreate or generate (offspring). 2. to cause; produce as an effect: a belief that power begets power. The Father Almighty had to be before "procreating or generating" the Son.

Ah yes...figured the Trinity but wasn't sure. A paradox wrapped in a paradox: did a god create the universe and is that god made up of 3 parts?

Can god make a burrito soooo hot that even he can't eat it?

    2.

to cause; produce as an effect: a belief that power begets power. Sorry about that!
