Maybe they've been taking lessons?

Wow. I've never had a problem with porn popping up on my computer, and most sites I visit are very clean.
This is ridiculous.

Porn never just pops up.
Most that happens is dating site advertizements will show up on a page you're looking at, but no porn.
Ya gotta buy the good stuff, and it's not cheap!
I don't like to buy to see that stuff because offers for more like that will pop up, as is shown when you buy to see other things not porn.
You get spammed.
Bet that elder was looking at A LOT of porn if 80% of what he gets on his computer is porn pop-ups.

"80% of all websites are pornographic"
Translation: 80% of the websites we click are pornographic. It it happens to me, it surely happens to you. And I don't want all of you being tempted with lustful thoughts as I am.

There has to be some JW's that know that this is a big fat LIE. don't you think? Internet 12 yrs here, never one porn pop up. Don't you have to pay money for the real porn ?
Funny - there was a JW at the local KH who raised their hand and made that very point - that porn is not something you accidently stumble on when surfing the net, but you have to go looking for it. Given the whole fear-mongering vibe those two paragraphs generated - especially among the oldies who knew very little about that thar interweb - thank goodness somebody had the guts to offer a balancing comment. There have to be other internet savvy JWs out there, I think, who also thought the WT was going over the top.

There is no way 80% of all web sites are porn. And I have yet to have a porn site pop up while on a different type of site.
You are more likely to have sites trying to sell something. And, most of the pop-ups are trying to sell crap products (such as crap software, movie clubs that are as often as not ripoffs, and junk you don't need). I often do web searches for topics, such as Christmas products, silver, hyperinflation, specific geographic and location information (like researching stores that originate in Maine, for instance), and old historic things that I remember. And most of them stick with the topic. I don't go searching for information on water fluoridation only to end up getting hit with porn.
As for malware, most malware is simply adware. Every time it removes malware, most of it is trackware and tracking cookies (which can be useful at time). Much of the remainder is adware, which is responsible for popups and can influence what ads you find on this type of forum. (And never gratituitously leads you to porn--you are more likely to be led to dating services than to porn sites, even if you are already on a porn site). Sometimes you get spyware--that "trustyhound!rem" is most common, but "low" risk. Rarely do I get anything more serious than that.
Yes, there is porn out there. But, most porn sites are difficult to find. You look on YouTube, it will warn you against it (and if you are not logged on and at least 18 years old, you can't see it at all). Many will give you a warning that you are about to view adult content, and an advisory that, if you are under 21, it is illegal to view porn where you are, or you are offended by it, to leave. To me, that is the mark of a reputable porn site. To get unsolicited porn is rare--sometimes it shows up in your Can of Spam, but that usually gets marked spam and deleted (and diminishes with time). But, I will not believe that the Internet is mostly porn.

I read somewhere that the stuff that the gb of jw's spout is 80% bullshite and I think that figure might be low. And it is true that if studied and believed it can be burned into the psychi to such an extent that it takes years to erase.

you are all so right, the wts has got it wrong BUT there was a time when the net was new- back in early 90s' and as late as 98-99 when surfing the net could accidentally bring you into contact with porn. Oprah did a program on this, how to surf the web safely. Browsers now are usually set for safe browsing and unless you change the options, you will seldom if ever see porn.
