This is a traumatic story and I feel that religion should not be used to break-up families. Anyone who is shunned does not have to play be the WTBTS rules!! Everyone who is shunned should send emails and cards with pictures to their familly and friends showing JWs that there is life after the WTBTS and to invite JWs to Birthday, Christmas, Thanksgiving, 4th of July, etc. celebrations. Who can predict which card or email will awaken a JW from the WTBTS coma?

Inhuman/inhumane. Like BTS said, many of us were there once, but something inside of us was able to break through and we changed.
It is so very cruel the way they can turn off their feelings at someone else's direction. They can just kick a child/parent/lifelong companion to the curb and step over them on their walk to paradise and pet tigers.
It's disgusting.

This cult burns away compassion, and in doing so creates people willing to strike a person dead in their mind.
And if the GB ordered it, not only just "in their mind." There are dedicated JWs who would put their family members to death physically if that became the Borg doctrine. Not all, of course, but they exist. I have some in my own family.

I just spoke with someone on the phone, who is familiar with the family.
-- All five children are out of the organization. One left a few months ago.
-- The father is a long-time inactive JW and he doesn't shun any of the children.
-- The mom remains a super, hardcore JW, but does not totally shun her children.
