do you have memories of these rules back in the day like me ?

    Abso - bloody - lutely!!!

My mother used all those on me. Worldly people were a no - no, which was hard considering there were JW's in our school.

You've met one of the few "worldly" friends I had at school at our party.

My mum wanted him to sit in on our family study, he said he didn't want to because he was confirmed by the CofE. She went ballistic with me when he left, spouting all that poison that you paraphrased.

those statements are all true, I was there at that time (60-90s were rough). the wt may have put it more PC but still those statements are true. A lot of jws did not follow the rules, but some of us did. Some of us even did what they said and "marked" our bro/sisters . Folks leading double lives were very common.

Wow what a great outcome from all you posters. I love you all and I hope the WT moles are feeling very small now ! I will post more tonight that will further expose the WT as the false morons that they are

    Aargh,

Reading through the list makes me shake my head in utter disbelief as to how I could have been under that control for so many years!

Looking back I am stunned that I allowed myself to be so totally at the mercy of the WT. Worse than that I actually believed and followed most of it.

That list should be plastered over every public forum possible to warn non JW's to stay far away from them - and allow those still in the borg to see how stupid it reads and plan their escape!

I am so grateful that I chose freedom

    Thanks for posting HHG

Don't be too hard on yourself, HappyOutsideTheBox, for believing WTS ideology. Recall what your life and its circumstances were like when you were first contacted by Jehovah's Witnesses or if you were born into the religion. If you were contacted, then you likely had some very deep concerns about your life and how the world situation could affect it. The message the Witnesses brought sounded so optimistic and wonderful: a paradise earth filled with peace-loving people who had been rescued from a wicked world. Human governments and their agents were obviously failing to improve conditions on the planet. (That is something I still firmly believe, by the way.) Only God could make things better.

The price for that rescue didn't seem to be very high: join Jehovah's Witnesses and begin to 'make your mind over' by conforming to the rules the Society put forward. And those rules weren't unreasonable, were they? So we were taught. After all, these were the rules the Kingdom was going to impose in the New Order, so we might as well start conforming to them now, right? As for regarding "worldly people" as worse than offal, well, since they had refused to submit to God and were going to be turned into bird food and manure anyway after Armageddon struck, there was no real need to have any compassion, fellow-feeling, or concern for them anyway, was there? If we were born into this religion, we never heard anything else.

Our minds and hearts were being poisoned, but we didn't know it. In a previous post on this thread, I said that I was undergoing "detoxification". I think that can be said of many of us now on this board. And when we detoxify, we start feeling things physically that we had not felt in a long time. Feeling the poisons being drained from our bodies and ourselves healing has a most powerful effect. It is likewise with leaving the WTS. We are undergoing a spiritual, mental, and emotional purging. We are now able to look back on our former condition and say, "Wow! Was I really that sick?"

The important thing now is that we stay on the road to health. We don't want to return to the abusive and poisonous culture the WTS is lest we wind up in even worse shape. I'm glad that I am now out. I know you are too. So don't berate yourself for the past, but stretch forward to a better future.

You are far too kind, sleepingbeauty.

I quoted from the very latest CD ROM available. The Borg doesn't change article content on a routine basis. There may have a few small instances, and IIRC, they were fairly important/significant, but for the most part the current info on the CD is the exact same info that was originally published.

I have no idea what got into "Desirous of Change" or why he/she isn't back here to defend him/herself or apologize for the unfounded ranting accusations of "LIES." Pride maybe?

I had lost track of this thread.

However, I hereby humbly apologize, esp to Hairy He Goat. I much too quickly assumed these were supposed to be quotes when I checked the first 2 or 3 as I found it hard to believe there were such brash statements. I see now that they were summations. I do think the summations reflect a pejorative opinion, but they are not untruths.

If it was that I read through it too fast and carelessly, I apologize.

If it was that I might have still been looking through my rose-colored glasses, I apologize.

If it was the evil influence of intoxicating liquor that blurred my reasoning, I apologize. (Nor for the liquor, but for the misconception and lack of tact or empathy in what I said that resulted.)

BTW -- I do still contend that things written in such a manner that first appear to be untrue attacks or even just blatantly biased against the JWs will prevent curious new lurkers who are developing doubts to run in fear and NOT look any further. But I have learned that many with the most hardened views are that way because of the abuse they have endured and the damage they have suffered personally. I am certain that it is not possible for me to begin to understand or comprehend their experiences.

Please do not judge me only by this one comment.

    Sincerely,

    DOC
