JW's who remain in the organisation but try to reform it - pissing against the wind

I came across a website that presents decent argumentation against three main areas of JW doctrine.

    http://jwreform.org/index.html

Who do these people think they are? Do they really believe that the WTS will sit up and take notice of their objections? Do they really imagine that the arrogant & stubborn members of the governing body will consider their petitions and effect change within the organisation?

As long as I have known this religion they have year by year tightened their grip of control over peoples lives. Even despite getting rid of one of the weekly meetings, the language used in WT publications gets more and more frighteningly controlling.

How can any single JW feel that the GB might one day relinquish control in areas like thought control & disfellowshiping?

I'd be interested to know if there has been any dialogue between the two parties other than "you're disfellowshiped."

    Thoughts?

    "pissing against the wind"

Yes, this is exactly what it is. For some, it can take years to realize this.

Let's re-visit this thread in 10 years to discuss what a wonderful organization WT has transformed into.

Reform is not going to happen. Reform is not how you run a destructive cult.

The very premise of this particular cult is hogwash: "We are God's organization." What an embarassment to God! Throw a dart at a list of religions and pick one that has killed fewer people and ruined fewer families.

I'd have to agree with most of what you are saying. The guys at the top don't negotiate - they don't have to. As long as they have enough money to keep the ship afloat til they pass on, where is the incentive to change? Sure they will rearrange the chairs on the deck of the Titanic from time to time, but as long at the "faithful slave" doctrine remains the primary belief of JWs there is not going to be any huge reform.

It will be a looonnnng, slooooooooow, decent into oblivion for the WT. Some may just feel absolutely stuck with no way to leave, thus they are trying to at least "do something" to make their stay inside a bit easier on the soul.

It's just a phase some go through as part of the awakening process. Some stay in that phase longer than others but I would wager that the vast majority find their way out of the organization eventually.

    Mickey-

I agree, I was one for several years writing the GB and Writing Department and other elders. It only gets you grief and in one or two cases a little buge on some issues.

    I'd rather plant Trees

Pissing into a hurricane is more like it...

Just talking to my wife about a really kind person who just happens to be an elder in our cong. who thinks he can 'reform' things.

I wish I could just come out and tell him the truth.

One of my relatives who is soon to become an Elder disagrees. He's going to be a force for change within the local BOE.

Ah to be young, idealistic and full of head-beating-against-a-wall energy again.

    *sigh*

p.s. I've carefully tried to demonstrate the futility of his plan, but to no avail.

His first time being thrown under the Bus should fix the idealism.

You forgot to include "corrupt." It was when I realized that the powers that be are not ignorant (of life, the bible, etc.), but actually deceitful that I knew I could not be a part of it anymore. Some still think the GB is "good" but perhaps misguided, or are just not interpreting the messages from Jah's HS correctly. There can be no reform when the org is rotten at its very core.
