I just went to the Wikipedia sight and there are so many holes in what they say but just this speaks volumes in how the JW's are covering up child abuse.

"If a former child abuser moves to another congregation, elders from the previous congregation must send a letter to the body of elders in the new congregation, outlining the offender's background[25] and whether the abuser is still under the 'restricted privileges'. Previous communication from the organization's Branch Office regarding the abuser is not forwarded to the new congregation.[26] Other members of the new congregation are not formally made aware of the abuser's past."Other members are not made aware of the abusers past.

I can vouch for that. If it were not for me the really bad sexual psychopath would not have been known to the elders in my hall. The hall he came from did not send any records on him for over three months, they did for his wife and kid but not for him, (by the way his wife is exactly like Nancy Gerrido and stands up for him just like she did Phillip.) The elders in my hall did not believe me when I told him he was a child rapist. That was why I got his court and police records myself and how I know he was declared a sexual psychopath. If it had not been for the fact that his man dated my sister I would never have known of his past either, the elders would not have gotten a letter from his former hall as the only reason they did was because I kept after my elders because they were basically calling me a lair. Ikept asking them to get his records from the other hall but they never came. I do know for a fact my service overseer tired and tired I even have copies of the letters he sent to the other hall begging for his records and finally well after three months they got them. All they said was that in his distant past he had been a pedophile, nothing about his being a sexual psychopath.

Also why does the Branch Office not want any Previous communication from them forwarded to the new congregation unless it is to cover their butts.

I invite everyone to go over and check out the sights that Standfirm has listed. There are condescending words that sound great and it sounds like they care for the victims but they are full loop holes that the elders will use to cover their butts and the huge one is that the police and CPS are not the first to be called but mostly it is handled in house by men as they admit are not trained.

You go Standfirm, stand on the side of the child molesters I have been dealing with it for years now.

I know this is long but here is another part of Wikipedia

It really does lay it all out where it say the elders may be required MAY BE REQUIRED really that would not be the first this demanded of them but they only may be required!

Also they will not discourage the victim from speaking up, well I was threatened with being DF'ed and I was told I have to be stopped by one of the CO's. But you read it and see it for yourself.

    "Reporting to civil authorities

A press release issued in 2003 by Jehovah's Witnesses' Office of Public Information stated: "The elders may be required by law to report even uncorroborated or unsubstantiated allegations to the authorities. If so, we expect the elders to comply."[31] The Watchtower magazine has outlined the following policy: "Depending on the law of the land where he lives, the molester may well have to serve a prison term or face other sanctions from the State. The congregation will not protect him from this."[32] A 2002 memo to all congregations stated: "Our position is that secular authorities deal with crime while elders deal with sin."[2] Even where there is no mandatory reporting requirement, victims or others having knowledge of an incident of sexual abuse must not be discouraged from reporting it.[33]

The New York Times commented: "The shape of the scandal [in Jehovah's Witnesses] is far different than in the Catholic church, where most of the people accused of abuse are priests and a vast majority of the victims were boys and young men. In the Jehovah's Witnesses, where congregations are often collections of extended families and church elders are chosen from among the laypeople, some of those accused are elders, but most are congregation members. The victims who have stepped forward are mostly girls and young women, and many accusations involve incest."[34]

Congregation elders are required to first contact the organization's legal department in cases of alleged abuse to establish whether there is a legal duty to report the sex crime to the civil authorities or not.[35] In Canada, elders have been advised: "There is a duty to report when one has reasonable and probable grounds to believe that there is abuse or a substantial risk of abuse and parents have failed to protect the child. The report shall be made forthwith to the local child welfare authorities. [...] Elders must be aware, however, that once they have knowledge, they have an obligation. They cannot just hope that someone else will report. They must follow through quickly, and be sure that it is done."[36]

The elders' manual, Pay Attention to Yourselves and to All the Flock, states: "Though it is not the responsibility of the Christian congregation to enforce Caesar's laws, the very nature of some crimes demands that they be reported to secular authorities."[37] A 1995 memo to elders stated: "Many states make it mandatory that elders report an accusation to the proper authorities but other states do not. In those states where such is required, oftentimes the parent, the guardian, or the accused person himself can do the reporting."[38] This was publicized by 1997.[39]
In 2000, elders in Great Britain were instructed: "The elder approached must encourage the complainant to consider his or her responsibility to report the matter to the authorities without delay and should also explain that he himself might have a duty to report the matter to the proper authorities," and that "all in the Christian congregation will want to consider their personal and moral responsibility to alert the appropriate authorities in cases where a serious criminal offense of this type has been committed, or there exists a risk that one may be committed."[40][41] In 2008, the Watch Tower Society of Britain, in discussions with the UK Charities Commission, undertook to produce a Child Protection Policy and update its procedures to bring them into line with other religious and secular bodies.[42]
[edit]Cover-up allegations Critics claim that in numerous cases, members of Jehovah's Witnesses have been prevented from reporting child molestation to civil authorities.[43][44]

Doctrinally, Jehovah's Witnesses handle all matters internally, which in recent years prompted accusations and lawsuits of a systematic sex offender cover-up. Recent policies sent to elders in 2002 state: "Child abuse is a crime. Never suggest to anyone that they should not report an allegation of child abuse to the police or other authorities. If you are asked, make it clear that whether to report the matter to the authorities or not, is a personal decision for each individual to make and that there are no congregation sanctions for either decision. That is, no elder will criticize anyone who reports such an allegation to the authorities".[45] This has been the Watchtower Society's position since at least 1993, when a memo to elders stated: "It is also a personal decision if the alleged victim chooses to report such accusations to the secular authorities."[46]
Particularly since around 2000, the Jehovah's Witnesses organization has been accused of covering up cases of child molestation committed by their members. In February 2001, Christianity Today-an evangelical journal that disagrees with the theological perspective of Jehovah's Witnesses-printed an article reporting allegations that Jehovah's Witnesses' policies made reporting sexual abuse difficult for members, and did not conform to typical treatment of such cases. The article also included a response by representatives of Jehovah's Witnesses.[47]
The BBC reported on the controversy around Jehovah's Witnesses child abuse in July 2002, in the Panorama program "Suffer the Little Children"[48] Jehovah's Witnesses headquarters published their response to many of the allegations made in the program, the substance of which is found in the article Jehovah's Witnesses and Child Protection on their official website.

According to Witness spokesman J. R. Brown, Jehovah's Witnesses are not required to report crimes to elders before calling civil authorities. Victims and their families are free to call police at will, he said, although some don't choose to.[49] A circular sent to elders in the USA stated: "In those states where such is required, oftentimes the parent, the guardian, or the accused person himself can do the reporting. In this way the confidentiality protected by ecclesiastical privilege is not violated."[50] The Watchtower Society maintains its existing policy, without an explicit requirement for elders to report all child abuse cases where such is not mandatorily required by law.[43][44][51]
    [edit]Sex offender database

The headquarters of Jehovah's Witnesses, the Watchtower Society, requires all congregations to submit details of child abuse allegations and maintains a database on all cases of child abuse reported to them. A spokesperson for the Watchtower Society stated in May 2002, "Apart from being legally needed, they have been very helpful to us in our efforts to protect the flock from harm. Christian parents can rightly feel secure in the knowledge that such efforts are made to screen out possible child abusers from appointment to responsible positions within the congregation."[52]

"Then come back here and read real life story after real life story, all saying the same thing."
Remember that there are two sides to every story. Also think of the Boer case where the same old claims were made but this time they had the chance to be demolished in court.

    keyser soze writes:
"Not to mention confusing the official WT position, with what is carried out by them in practice. They can say anything for the sake of their public image. It doesn't make it reality."

Why do you think the WTS says what it does in confidential letters to elders and the Child Abuse Telememo? As PR? In a confidential document? I think not.

HOW the WTS wants elders to act is obvious from the documentation.

    Yes, yes it is

Anything the wts does regarding this is only to CYA legally. That is really all they care about and I like so many others know this from personal experience SO Stand firm, you can quote the official wts response but it is just DIDDLY and if you were honest you'd say that too. They don't care who they hurt as long as they retain their positions and the wts is not sued. they will destroy the credibility of the victim to save "mother" .

The Witnesses make a clear choice in credibility: Children are liars in light of all contrary evidence. Yes, young children can be confused and even coached. Caesar has the training to filter these cases. Because if it di'f'able, it is criminal! Just as when a Bethelite took off his belt and handed it to my mom when my 3-year old sister was slightly brushing her feet against the chair in front of her, children are abhored. Children take time away from field service. Indeed, when my parents married around the end of WWII, no one in their congregation would talk to them. If marriage detracts from infernal knocking on doors, what do children do?

Personally, whenever a Witness comes on and justifies the WT I become livid. We can't go there. Free speech is important. When the subject is protection of pedophiles, free speech should be attentuated a bit. Nowhere in the Bible does it say to determine a determine one's innocence in a court of law. Note how a theocracy is imposed by Jehohvah on unwilling people. There is not one iota of grace or justice or love or compassion in the Witness stance.

I was so envious of a high school Witness friend b/c this ministerial servant gave her much attention, and I received none. She was of a race with certain stereotypes about sexuality and I was not. She had no relatives present. I had parents near my side all the time. Decades later, I teased her about my envy. He was a pedophile. She was grilled and grilled for months. While she was being grilled, he went out in field service with other young girls. She was told to shut up about what happened and never tell anyone.

If the pedophile rules were an aberration within a loving, caring community, it would be frustrating. The pedophiles rulels shed a harsh light on all this most wrong with the org. I am beyond rage.

I was sexually abused in three different states. It's not a congregational problem; it's the organization. I don't want to type out my long-winded vitriole about my own abuse and the way it was handled (or rather, NOT handled), but it was treated with the same indifference no matter where I was. I was even asked once if I ENJOYED BEING MOLESTED. I have been told that nothing was going to be done, not even talking to the abuser about the matter, because it would be an embarrassment, and he was married, and because of his good status. Other times it was because "Oh he's a young man, in the bloom of youth, it can be hard to control his sexual desires" like that's a good excuse. And then a different time I was told, "You're being too sensitive!" like I was just overdramatizing things. I was even told once to "get used to it", and to be grateful that I am pretty and desired by men, or maybe I should quit "dressing up" and maybe I wouldn't have this problem.

My pain was never even private; the entire congregation KNEW what was happening to me, years before I ever spoke up. And nothing ever happened, except that I was shunned and treated poorly, and called a whore. I was specifically singled out as a black sheep, and not invited to anything. Nobody wanted me in their car group for service. Other kids would tell me that they weren't allowed to talk to me. A sister in the congregation even tried to force me into a vaginal exam (done by HER!!!) because she was convinced I was lying, and making her congregation "look bad" (she was the wife of an Elder, both of who had known me since I was a child, both who knew of the abuse, and didn't think much of it).

Then I started hearing rumors about myself that I was "emotional" and "mentally unstable", and even "schizophrenic". And that I was "sleeping with worldly boys" and "doing drugs". All these lies. It was easier for the congregation to believe numerous ridiculous lies about me than to believe the one truth: that the congregation was allowing and enabling me to be molested. Even my own mother was sticking her head in the sand about my abuse. My pooooor mother, everyone felt so bad for her, because she had such an evil and crazy daughter, who clearly needed to be beaten and whipped into complacence. Do not spare the rod, and all that. (don't even get me started on the Watchtower-approved physical abuse that left me fearing for my life and running straight to a social worker, and I got REAMED by the Elders for that)

I don't understand how anyone can defend an organization that knowingly enables abuse.
