Lady Lee, ur one of the luckier ones - not everyone who is or was in the Organization has the mental tenacity to let hard logic reign over superstition in their minds. ACES TO YOU!

I have several friends who still go to meetings or who are dfd who still beleive the WTS is the "truth". Several of these people lead real rock star lifestyles. I mean they would make your average "wordly" person blush with some of the stuff they do. How they reconcile the guilt, I am not sure. The mind is indeed amazing.

Is this a record for someone driffting away and then coming back?
In my old hall just before I left a man had started to return to the meetings and was giving talks a going on the min.
He had last been to the hall ( and was baptised) BEFORE the second world war and was now back .He was in his middle 70's.

So true about those who leave, are DF'd, but are still under the WTS mind control yoke.
Last year I presented the UN/NGO/WTS info to a long DF'd(15 years or so) friend. She immediately got defensive, saying the reporter from the Guardian must have had an axe to grind with JWs.
I was sickened, as she has told me for years how unfairly she was treated in being DFd.

    Oh well.

    Sleepy,

"Should we not be targeting these ones as they one day in a low emotional state will probably drift back to their "mother org"?"

I personally think that nobody should ever be targeted for anything. People are going to believe what they want to believe until they are ready not to. I know, because I just recently was open to informing myself on other beliefs and opinions. My husband on the other hand has not been to a meeting for quite some time and still believes it's the truth and thinks that apostates are wack jobs. However he just says that he doesn't want to be a witness anymore, but doesn't want to be anti-witness. He respects my stand and I respect his.

JT--"she was swinging "Coochie" everywhere". That's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time. LOL!!!

Part of the mind control mindset includes cognitive dissonance - a mental process that allows an individual to believe two opposing thoughts to both be true. This cognitive dissonance creates a cult personality.

The opposing beliefs are dissociated to reduce confusion and even guilt from unacceptable practices. I think that is the only way for a person to continue to practice both lifestyles.

At times information may surface to enter awareness of the opposing belief. Guilt and fear may be strong enough emotions to reinforce the dissociation of belief systems and this in turn might strengthen the cult personality.

I see evidence of this cult personality in members who have difficulty thinking and expressing their own thoughts and emotions. The cult personality seems capable of simply reflecting the acceptable thoughts feeling and behaviors of the cult.

It also explains why it is so difficult to get a cult member to really comprehend anti-cult info.

In the case of JWs this cult personality is called the "new personality" and the biblical erroneously validate the cult personality as something to be desired when in fact it is a man-made artifact of cult programming and mind control techniques
