well, i was chatting with my mom this weekend. she informed me that the summer convention was in early june this year. which also happens to be finals week for my brother. what a hassle! the wts just doesn't give a damn does it? so now my mom and bro have to ask the teachers if he can complete all his finals by thursday so he can attend the stinkin' convention. she said if the teachers can't do that then my family will attend another district's friday program. i feel bad my family (and all the jws) who have to continously jump thru these little hoops to show how loyal they are to the damn gb. i just wish i had the magic words to convince my family that their truth is nothing but a big fat lie! grrrr

    mony,

I feel for you ( by the way, nice naval ). I can't imagine having my whole imediate family so dubbed. It must get extremely frustrating and so hard emotionally having those you love in "it". I think I'd have the helpless feeling. Is your brother in college? or high school?

I often wonder what adults tell their bosses when they need Friday's or Saturdays off when it comes time for the brainwashing sessions that they are rated as "weak" for if they miss.

I always hated the conventions. They seemed to come at the wrong time every year...We were always just digging out finacially from the one tyhe year before.

In the latter years I refused to go. It got to be such a hassel.
Too bad we can not wave a wand over our family and friends and all the society foolisnish would go away...

    gwen and plh,

i always used the cloak and dagger approach, and saved myself the hassle.

i always schedualed my vacation for the same week as the dc, that way there were no ?????'s as to where and what i was doing.

but i guess i dont have to worry about that anymore huh?

It sounds like the Society managed to get a discount by booking the venue at a low-demand time.

I'll bet they saved hundreds of dollars. So what if thousand of individual JW's have to reschedule their life?

naturally summers are always low-demand times for indoor arenas. families attending alternate conventions, usually the preceding or following weekend at the same venue, are very common these days, despite being encouraged by the society to attend the assigned, 'if at all possible.'

the full DC schedule appears in a recent WT, ive forgotten which. did someone post it here?

    Harmony,

Why not simply suggest to your mom that she make plans to go to an assembly other than the one to which she's assigned? Brooklyn certainly didn't consult with her or with anyone else affected by the scheduling.

This way, with all of of her little Borgie brothers and sisters away at the assembly, she and your brother can for one week get a taste of what ``worldings'' luxuriate in 52 times a year.. a Borg-free weeekend, with no local meetings, no field service, no reason to change clothes and nobody snooping around.

If it makes her feel better to say that she's decided this year to go elsewhere for the assembly, then she should do so. Maybe she wil have enjoyed her one hassle-free weekend enough to just forget about wasting another one at somebody else's venue.

    Peace,

Why should the WTBTS corporation care that the scheduling of their conventions in June is likely to interfere with final exam schedules for JW kids? In addition to failing to ascribe any importance to education, the JWs have actively discouraged their "flock" from seeking higher education. After all, getting an education could take time away from one's pioneering activities, or, worse yet, could cause one to question the beliefs espoused by the WTBTS corporation.

In 18 years, I have missed everything but the memorial. Even this year, I will be attending. I love missing everything else.
