I was recently invited to join some friends for a meal. They had a family member visiting from out-of-town who was older, and knows personally a few of the Governing Body Members. This individual went on about how wonderful those men are, and how happy they are to be led by the GB.
It was mentioned how telling it was that they have not been filling empty spots on the Governing Body, and how that the men now serving on that body were "just like us" - that one of them had been divorced (I did not know this), one of them was a Vet from 'Nam (I think I had heard this), and that one of them had several children, etc. The conversation must have lasted at least 10 minutes.
It went on, and on, it seemed. I have never heard anyone speak so highly of those guys before. Rather than giving me a more favorable impression of them, it made me feel disgusted with how much a person could be star-struck with people who are supposed to be "slaves."
What is probably the more likely story, is that this person really doesn't know the Governing Body at all, and was hoping to gain some "I'm More Spiritual Than You Points" by claiming to be so in-the-know. It was really creepy.
