jws is not the best way of life b/c they offer a false future. I think living a Christian life is the best way, but that does not necessarily include organized religion.

terry really had no choice at the time it was either have a ministers deferment, be a father or go to prison. There were no other options open to jws at that time.

i too lived through this era and remember 75 and thank goodness I was not a good witness and did not take it seriously. so many did ,however. While Terry is sitting in prison some of the elders sons are free and clear b/c daddy got them a ministers deferment. The wealthy and privileged and well connected always get out of things that the rest of us peons have to do.

I say this too, I also knew some elders who made their kids tow the line, to be fair.

oh and Jeffery, congrats on all those janitorial skills you now have.

Did you notice the Governing Body beside you while you did low paying janitorial work? As the WT elite, they need not fear a lean retirement.

Many religions have preached the end times. Europe came to a halt around the year 1,000 as people feared or welcome the end of time. Yet some economic activity was pursued. They think only in black and white tersm. Frankly, I don't see a hege fund manager's lifestyle as Christ based. What is wrong with some modest acknowledgemt that we must live until the end times. It is always all or nothing. Under the Roman Church, Christian kings were beholden to the pope. Yet they ran their nation states in the present. The Pope was more politcal adversary than leader.

I wanted out so badly I clung to education. It took a long time but I becamem middle class. Among Manhattan professionals, people will give up everyting except food and basic shelter to ensure their children not only attend school but attend the same private elite schools their parents paid for them.

I believe that Christ provides ways for former Witnesses to reclaim their lives. The story of someone in a flood, praying to God for help, and turning down a boat and helicopter rescue b/c God would provide is legendary. God said tough, I sent you a boat and you refused it. I was so concerned for you that I sent a helicopter and you refused me yet again.

This is not about end time doctrine. Humans are addicted to end time dramas. We know it is about mind control, cults, and crippling rank and file. Disability afflicted me. Everyone thought I would earn millions and have at least two homes, plus luxury cars. Now I worry about events that never ever entered my mind. If I work my butt off and seek extensive help, I believe Christ will find a satisfactory resolution. It was much easier to go up the social status scale. Descending is worse. Now I have elitiest notions that I did not have as a Witness.

Several fundamentalist churches offer financial counselling. God does not want us to starve or be on the streets. Churches in every religion do outreach. Not a religion that grabs you by the neck and strangles you.

jefferyjones, so every JW should start their own janitorial company. 7 million janitorial companies world wide. Yeah that'll work real well.
