No us as a internet forum but us as a people.

Have you noticed how accetable violence is and how it seems unaccetable to view the human form?

It is perfectly fine for us and our children to see violence during a sporting event, during a movie on primetime even read about "unbelievers" being destroyed by God, but if you see a pair of boobs or a butt a bit to revealing it's like freaking armageden !!!

The other day a movie was on and there were a could or "risque" scenes that showed perhaps more cleavage than they should have, so it was blurred out, but then they showed a guy losing his head and the bloody neck stub !!!

    WTF ?!?!?

    Another example:

I am a moderator on a Martial arts forum, a forum where people talek about violence and how to do violence and post movies and gif and pics of violence, but someone posted a pic of a "busty hottie" and people were saying it was inappropriate because what if teenagers or kids visit the forum?

It was a pic of a busty women in a bikini top, something kids see EVERYDAY and everything they go to the beach, to the pool, to the water park !!

So it seems that posting a pic or video of someone getting a beating or stabbing or broken limb is fine, but cleavage isn't ??

Seriously are we THIS screwed up ??

totally agree another good example of what you speak of is youtube. they will show all sprts of carnage and death...but let a nipple slip in or show the butt split thats a no-no.

it really is a weird and twisted scenario.

The United States culture is extremely sexually repressed as a whole, and we probably won't see that go away for a long, long time. Unfortunately, that repression carries over to the internet, mainly in the form of obscenity laws. Fortunately, however,

Not just the US, look at Islam ( as an extreme example of course), ok with death and beheadings but show some skin and its stoning at 3, bring your favorite stones !!

When did it become so easy to justify violence to our children and so hard to explain nudity ??

    @leavingwt: Seconded. It's a scourge.

I was watching Curiosity last night on TV and it was about the volcanic island of Thera that many now believe to be the origin of the Atlantis story. One of the things the show discussed was that the worse the apparent danger to society got, the more radical the religious leaders became. The mountain is smoking? Damn, better sacrifice a goat. Earthquakes and ash? OMG, better sacrifice a bull. Explosions and pyroclast? Now it's on; time to start sacrificing humans.

And as science and culture have attempted to progress beyond the need for dependence on mythological constructs to explain our universe, that same sort of religious mindset has opposed progress at every turn. It rears its head in the USA worse than anywhere else on the planet.

An abuse of religion, power, and greed among those who have it in spades is the primary cause. It doesn't take many bad apples to spoil the bunch.

I also think that this type of thinking is somewhat JW-related; ya know, the entire "wow things are getting so bad" thing as JW's always think things are getting worse and end is getting closer. In reality, things have been far worse many times before in human history. And, generally speaking, the percentage of people doing the crazy or evil things that dominate the headlines is a tiny percentage when compared to the rest of the world that just goes about their business.

I was also thinking how acts that we would consider heinous have been around for quite some time. Serial killers aren't a new thing for example. I think of the stuff that HH Holmes did in the 1800's compared to today, and he's as sick if not worse than the others.

We now have our species at it's largest population ever, with the greatest amount of inter-connected-ness ever. You can barely break wind these days without someone finding out, twittering, etc. More people = more chances for bad apples, massive global consciousness and internet = news of anything noteworthy spreads instantly. These things, combined with the fact that bad news gets more eyeballs and sells more news than fluffy good news, all make me think that maybe things aren't really as bad as I once thought.

I fear that you may be right.

However, Islam aside, and the amish, most religions have no issue with the human form and I don't recall religious people pickting the local water park, beach or even nudist resorts.

Though I may stand corrected on that, LOL !
