Which songs/Albums were considered "Demonic" in your Congregation...did you toss some? (page 4)

All 80's metal bands were BIG no no's, as were rap groups. If you listen to late 80's/ early 90's rap now its so tame compared to today! I remember Guns n' Roses were super hated. Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't they actually mention them by NAME in a watchtower? I could be wrong I was pretty young. They had "sexual" music videos so they were evil.

I remember I really liked the band Nine Inch Nails, but then someone told me they used to be in a band called Jehovah kill, along with some of the members of Tool (also a super demonic band). Then I was told that Nine Inch Nails was referring to the length of the nails which were used to nail Jesus to the cross (or stake, if u are a JW hehe). So I listened to them in secret.

Tool is an awesome band and all my dubbie friends had a sort of fascination with them. Someone mentioned that the only way they could have such good music talent was if they were getting help from the demons (LOL). Earlier someone mentioned Pink Floyd being "demonic" too. Is anyone noticing a progressive rock=demonic theme here? Anything that is remotely trippy seems to be composed by satan himself.

And this thread wouldn't be complete without a mention of Marilyn Manson!!

I never got any trouble for my music, but I listened to pretty tame stuff. I was a big Duran Duran fan. Everyone knew that. But one sister in the congregation, who had been my best friend years earlier but we weren't really on speaking terms anymore, and who would later be disfellowshipped a few years later, was really into Siouxsie and the Banshees. She was talking all about them one night after the Thursday meeting. That's the first time I ever heard of them. And later on after that they became one of my favorite bands.

I told the people in the congregation once I went to an OMD concert. An elder asked me, "What does that stand for? Does the 'D' stand for 'Devil'?" lol

Another memory is of a guy in my congregation who used to have lots of disco records. He had to get rid of all that music when he got baptized.

But another memory is of a book study in 1980. After the meeting I went into the bedroom of one of the guys who lived at the house, he was a teenager at the time, I was only 9, and I saw he had the Cars' Candy-O album out and it had a pin-up type album cover, and I thought, that's not very theocratic. lol

Of course, I had Thriller. It actually was the first album I got. But by that time, MJ was kind of thought as not very upbuilding.

The mother said something to me along the lines of "Well, you should be careful that the songs aren't demonic."

WTF, lady? Really?? Did you even LISTEN to the damn lyrics??? I turned it up... *snicker*

Band on the Run

In my day, any pop music, esp. the British invasion. My extensive Beatles, Stones, and Dylan collection was confiscated. I was a huge WHO fan but could not bring the albums home b/c of the pop art. Sticky Fingers by the Stones was the worse. It had a tight pair of jeans with an actual zipper that worked. My stuff and import posters from Great Britain were confiscated. My crazy Witness father died. My mom's first act was returning all my albums and helping post my Beatles posters. I was a fan club member so the stuff was valuable. Also, I had cells from A Yellow Submarine.

When I attend a WHO, Stones, or McCartney concert, I jump in utter ectsasy. Hearing the WHO at full blast is such a joy.

Shortly before he died, my father turned on Lennon, in particular. I noticed how people honored my father at his funeral compared to the millions around the world who honored John. Indeed, people were arrested in Moscow showing their respect and sorrow. Get Back, Loretta!

But seriously I had to get rid of my Gene Simmons solo album circa 1978 because of this cover and first track. (my mom bought it for me when I was a kid)

Interestingly enough in our congregation it was told straight forward (so I was told by an elder) in an Awake! article (I think) that no one had the right to tell you what sort of music you could and could not listen to. I knew a married pioneer couple who listened to heavy metal all the time (except in FS).
