It takes much more mental power to sustain the lies of a false persona than telling the truth. Think of the dilemma faders will face if a close family member exits the KH- do you break ranks and support them, thereby risking your own disfellowshipping? Or do you pretend that you are still a JW and shun them, so you don't blow your cover? The Bible says you reap what you sow- getting out of a cult religion isn't likely to happen for most JWs without consequences.
