I'm so upset! i've been trying to get my music out and heard and it seems that NO ONE is willing to give it a chance. It takes a good second to get the music going. The chorus is great and there is GREAT potential to my abilities and NO ONE is listening. I've tried craigslist, modernmusic etc.. and i'm getting to the point where i'm fruistrated and ready to fuck it all. Everyone wants the next F#@$ing Kurt cobrain, Deadmau5, or whatever but no one is freaking patient enough to even give listen to a song. I knew about System of a down before they got famous and said 'they're going to make it' .....i knew about hollywood undead before they got famous and knew 'they'll make it'....before their album even came out! i have this GREAT ability to be able to recognize talent and NO ONE's gives a SHIT! .....I can listen to a song and say 'THIS needs this, and this, and that to make it better' but NO ONE'S LISTENING! i'm not even sure what the hell they CALL this ability. Talent scout? producer? Composer? GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR And the song i made was with a style of music I DIDN 'T WANT TO WORK WITH and it STILL came out good! 9 out of 10 people LIKE IT!.......... .bitches

ME (this time i'll capitalize BOTH letters OF 'Me' due to my frustration)

I understand your frustration, and sympathise. But you can't control what other people like or do. Make music because you like to do it, and do the best you can, so you can be proud of it. I don't know much about the music industry, but are there other avenues you have not tried yet? What is your hope and goal? Have you given yourself a reasonable deadline to reach your hope and goal?

It's either called a "Critic" or a "Producer" the difference being whether or not you have money to PRODUCE someone's music or you just write articles criticizing the music of others.

Sorry you're frustrated. Life is like that. Put your angst into your art.

The reason I ask is I have many friends who make their living with music,,, some more commercially succesful than others.

Also, we have several professionals on board here, as well as a couple of posters whose kids are making music ...

    tell us more ..

    I feel your frustration (((Voices)))

Maybe sometimes you just have to do it old school. Play some live venues, video live performances that you can master or re-mix for upload to Facebook, youtube etc, build a fan base, network with other musicians/artists. Never underestimate the value of live performing in promoting yourself and developing and honing "your" sound .

Take advantage of the fact major record companies no longer totally control marketing and distribution. More and more artists are doing it all themselves on their Web sites.

    That's my 2

While I agree with everyone else's comments, dear Voices (the greatest of love and peace to you!), I have to say that dear BRh's (peace to you, as well!) is probably the most accurate and practical. I am not a music industry expert - I am just basing this on the fact that I attended my daughter's CD release party last Thursday night (which is why I've been a bit absent from the board... and tired since). It was AWESOME! Here's the cover pic:

Here she is with the backup dancers:

    And another song:

She did exactly as dear BR stated: played several (many!) live venues all over Northern Cali, did some short live video performances (and is working on a full-length one, now)... all of which is uploaded to her Facebook page (which is the ONLY reason I have an account - I HATE Facebook!), Youtube, and other sites. She now has a fan base that follows her (folks flew in from all over the country to attend the launch... and she always, always networks with other musicians/artists (one such artist came up to me and gave my girl kudos, saying that she is one of the few artists that doesn't compete but always encourages and helps other up and coming artists. My daughter strongly believes in "it takes a village"... even to make a recording artist - LOLOL!).

So, I would tell you to take dear BR's advice seriously. The industry seems to be quite different today... and since more folks ARE producing their own stuff and NOT relying on big record labels (at first)... making friends who are in a similar situation as you may be a prudent thing to do.

And, yeah, I'm gonna take her pics down in a few - wouldn't want the RoosterMan (or the other "pre-verts" on the board) having strokes or anything at my expense.

Anyway... if I can go by my daughter, you gotta get yourself out there! Find someone to "promote" you, if you can't do it yourself. Get out... and get known. That's really what you have to do.

    Peace!

    SA, on her own...
