    Talesin:

I am definately producing (I think, from what I read), trying to perform and I do write (piano), but not on sheet music, but naturally that if I had the opportunity would magnify into a huge career if guided and/or given the opportunity to show my producing level. Again, I have a lot of potential but I feel as though people arn't willing to give the time of day. I have had opera training and screaming training roughly year and half and have a VERY loud and powerful voice that needs a little guidance.

My voice is extremely loud that even my girlfriend and friends are affraid I might shatter glass. I'm MIDI certified and have worked with a lot of different interfaces....Logic, Protools, Reason, Digital Performer, Cubase, and film with some final cut. I work with samples as well and have gotten discouraged by the lack of interest by people not noticing me. Modernbeats gave me a Review (personal good constructive critism) that normally people wouldn't get. Most of the time they either get accepted or rejection auto 'letters.' My review was personal and not typed up by some computer program. The individual stated that I needed to fix some balancing in mixing and made some recommendations and that was it. I feel limited wiht my equipment now and feel I would be able to get the next hit, if guided correctly. And I feel honored that I actually got a personalized letter, which furthered my support for the idea that I have 'it.' And this is it, the ONE thing I know I LOVE and enjoy and have talent for is MUSIC.

I have extremely LOW self-esteem, and to be able to say that i'm actually GOOD at something is saying something about what i'm capable of doing. Music is ONE thing, I can honestly and confidently say 'I got it..i just need someone to take me under their wing and work with me.' Ask ANYONE that knows me......some even on this board, how BAD my self esteem is, and ask them how 'HARD' I am on myself...and then for me to say THIS positive thing? believe you me...I have 'it.'

I have a composition of samples I chopped, mixed, balanced, automated, panned, worked on, and put together as a song that I can forward. I just need someone to see the talent, particularly with the CHORUS. I have ideas of my costume, the image, the music video. I can also make videos using Final cut and put them together.

Let me know if you want the song

Shawn wants to put some jeans on her

LOLOLOLOL! Tell dear Mr. Shawn that if that's how he feels he'd better get ready for a [very] bumpy ride if that doll in HIS house ever plans to model (which you KNOW I think she can do, so)!

She was quite a late bloomer and it was modeling that got her comfortable enough to wear the outfits/costumes she does onstage (to even talk, she was once excrutiatingly shy - she didn't even go outside and mingle with other kids until she was 12! First "boyfriend" at 19!). I guess once you let a camera have at you... the rest is a piece of cake!

She's a really good daughter, woman, and person, though... so I'm cool with it. She knows who... and what... she is...

    Peace, my sistah!

SA, on her own... and turning the thread back over to dear Voices (peace to you, dear one!)...

Dear, dear Voices... again, the greatest of love and peace to you! My sincere apologies for jacking your thread. But you gave me a "good" reason to post something I have been VERY proud of over the past few days/months... but didn't want to make a thread dedicated to. This is, of course, about YOU... and your frustrations, of course. I just thought dear BRs advice was accurate... and, again, since I'm not an expert, wanted to show why I agreed with him/her. That's it, that's all. Please forgive me... and overlook my "mommy bragging moment", if you can.

Again, peace to, my dear one!

YOUR servant, sister, and a slave of Christ,

    SA

Thank you, dear Talesin (peace to you!), truly, for letting me know. I can still see them in the thread so I assumed everyone else could, too. I feel horrible - this was dear Voices thread, after all...

    Peace.

Voices,,, that is great advice by BRh. Get to know the local scene & other musicians. They are usually a little bit crazy, but mutually supportive lot. Playing local gigs gives you experience, confidence and gets the word out.

Are there any song-writing circles in your town/city? It's good to get with other musicians and create together.

I'll email a musician friend who is local, and has been also managing another young musician that recently went national.

The music business is hard to 'break into',,, and with all that talent, it's still hard to be heard. You are right to feel good about getting a 'personal' review of your work.

Also, remember that you are gifted in more than one field - one guy here has been playing as a session musician for years, and has an awesome reputation in this part of the country. He also kept writing songs and sending them to 'big' artists, and won a Grammy 2-3 years ago for "Jesus takes the wheel"... not my kinda music, but whatever. Diversification (ie, writing and producing other artists) can be a way to actually make money, while working towards getting your OWN recordings heard.

You can gain experience by helping other local musicians produce their work as well.

Don't lose heart! I'm so happy to hear you are confident about your gift. I understand, as low self-esteem has been a problem for me, but I know what I am REALLY GOOD AT. Don't let it get you down.

Voices, is this a completed song/songs?

If your songs/song are finished (mixed) you can load it onto Itunes (some pay) to download your song. You can also make your own video on Youtube (good exposure) . Many do live music and book gigs that way (sell their cds at clubs they perform at) . KXLU and other college stations play many unknowns music because it's (uderground and finding unkowns is still sought after). There is also myspace to load your stuff. I'm pretty sure Facebook has something now as well to load music.

I've been a musician for many years...sing, composing, write, play.

If you're composing, singing, playing and producing, you're still a musician. If you're just producing (mixing) then you're a producer/engineer. You don't need to know how to read music in order to be a good musician. Many create by ear.

You can perform solo or you can get a band together. Either way.....you can book your own gigs....coffee houses....clubs (will want to hear your music before booking you) .....for more exposure....

Just make sure your intros aren't too long, people lose interest with long intros (especially if you're trying to get heard).....unless it's an outstanding intro.......

    Two words "Justin Bieber"

Ok, more than two-almost everyone in a country with the internet has the resources to become known. Keep at it. The internet changed everything. And don't forget, Kurt Cobain is really really, you know, dead. Success in that business is not always what it is cracked up to be.

Keep perspective and keep working at your dream-if you love what you do, then you won't ever be wasting your time.
